I think we match up much better with them this year than we did last year (not saying much).

We will definitely give them a run for their money this year @ home, IMO.

Thoughts?

They are better than us in 3 main areas, which also are the 3 most important areas.

QB, OL, DL.

Everywhere else IMO it's very similar talent, and we MAY even be better in some.

FSU's defense has some difference-makers. They're going to give us a handful.

Karlos Williams scares the crap out of me. His combination of size and speed is scary.

I don't think we get obliterated the way we did last season, but if we stand a chance to beat them, we need to bring our A-Game.

They're still very deep, very talented, and well coached.

OP I completely agree! They lost a lot of leaders- not just players- but leaders. People on here argue that they lost more guys after 2012 and that is true, but they lost more quality players / leaders this year- huge difference.

They're loaded to the gills, no doubt about it. That said, I think we're competitive with them everywhere except DL, LB, and QB. We both have top 5 talent at WR and DB. Their RBs probably rate a tick better, but our's are good enough that it's insignificant.

Lane and Rudolph will start over Haggins and Green soon at WR.

Cook will be spelling Williams soon at RB.

IMO.

QB: FSU, Could be us after Winston leaves.
RB: Miami
WR: Miami
OL: FSU. Another year or two, their more talented on the OL.
DL: FSU. Could tie with them a year from now pending development.
LB: Miami
DB: FSU for now, but could be tie or Miami pending seasons progress.
Kicking Game: FSU
Return Game: Tie

Who cares how our RBs compare to theirs or our LBs compare to their LBs?

How does our OL match up to their DL?

How's our DL match up to their OL?

They're secondary is loaded with talent. Is that enough to negate our WR talent along wit their pass rush?

our secondary matches up better with their WR's this year
their OL > DL but it should be more competitive this year
their DL > OL " "
their 2 starting CB are great but I think out 3-5 WR's are better than their 3-5 CB's

their still not big at LB so if our oline plays lights out we can pound the rock, our front 7 at least contains their run game, and DB's prevent big plays we should be right there in the 4th

We know they good, but we getting there and they know it. The Canes and USC are probably the two teams that are in places where the attractiveness of location, abundance of talent and history will without doubt make the move into the top 7 in the next two years. Trust me coaches, scouts and media types know Miami is a powder keg waiting to explode over the next few years now that the shackles have come off. The 3 year NCAA investigation was just a ploy to slow us down. It worked but we now instead of this year being our statement season it'll be 2016.

LB is arguably our weakest position on the whole team

FWIW, here is a rough draft of what I think our (limited) depth chart will look like for the FSU game:

QB: Heaps/Williams/Olsen/Kaaya
RB: Duke/Yearby/Edwards
FB: Tucker/Edwards
TE: Walford/Sandland/Dobard
WR: Scott/Waters/Lewis/Jones
WR: Coley/Dorsett/Berrios
LT: Flowers/Feliciano
LG: Feliciano/Isidora
C: S. McDermott/Gall
RG: Isidora/Odogwu/Darling
RT: KC McDermott/Gadbois

DE: AQM/Thomas/D. Jackson/M. Smith
DT: Pierre/Heurtelou/Moten
DT: Wyche/Moore/King/Jenkins
DE: Chickillo/Kamalu/Hamilton/Harris
OLB: Kirby/Grace
MLB: Perryman/Young
OLB: McCord/Armbrister/Owens
CB: Howard/A. Crawford
SS: Carter/D. Crawford/Bush
FS: D. Crawford/Bush/Jenkins
CB: Gunter/Burns/Elder

K: Goudis
P: Goudis
PR: Coley
KR: Coley/Burns

Criticize away!

I think WR is a weak spot actually beyond Greene. I think they'll need the freshman to play big for them. A bit of a gap in recruiting, mad I' m not high on Green, Haggins, Wilson. Lots of highly touted backs but no proven horse. The loss of Freeman's catches out of the backfield will hurt. He always seemed to be open for Winston. The OL will probably carry them and make their Passing game look better than it is. Some of those DL have to be the big dogs now that Jernigan's constant pressure is gone. He opened up a lot with his inside pass rush. I'm actually not impressed with their LBs, a lot of inexperience. Losing Green and Telvin Smith will hurt. Great athletes and were experienced. The secondary is stacked. Joyner's aggressiveness and leadership will be missed overall on D. Of course Winston is a trump card.

Some think our secondary is shaping up to have a very productive year. Their secondary is on another planet, plain and simple. Only semi-week spot on their defense is linebacker, not do to a lack of talent but just experience. But I'm sure their DL will make their lb's look real good. I fuqqin hate FSU, but they have the most talented roster in CFB again.

Call me crazy, but I think this 2014 FSU squad is more like their 2012 squad than it is like their 2013 squad (minus their Heisman QB returning).

Their secondary is miles ahead of ours. They have some first round talent in that secondary. Probably the best one in the country.
