Wait, you think Saban is a mentor to Cristobal?

Cristobal had already been a HC for 5 years before he met Saban, he's not from Saban's coaching tree.

They worked together for 3 years - and judging by the game day interaction in Cal, Cristobal was quite clear on how that relationship operated.

I think that’s great. I really do.. but that’s not his job. His job is to win & bring in as much revenue as possible. Respect to those who make it about a higher calling but I also understand those who don’t.

It’s uncharted waters in 2024 building a team dynamic & unselfish culture. Lots of turnover & new faces year in and out. Kirby is alright with me. He’s not a scumbag like Urban Meyer IMO.

It's part of his job though - and certainly part of his recruiting pitch.

Yes his KPIs will be "win football games" and "make us a boatload of money", but they'll also want him to prevent his football team from dragging the university's name through the mud.

With regards to the recruiting pitch, I'm sure others can tell us better, but from what I've read / seen of Cristobal, I don't doubt that part of it will be "you can trust your son to me for the next 3-4 years". Getting them involved with community service, making sure they actually graduate etc will be a big selling point of that.
