Kids that are Big Hurricane fans.

You one get one shot at life and college is a big part of it. They may have grown up rooting for UM. But if they conclude UF or FSU is their best option, I can't fault them. Plenty of UM fans go to a state school because it's cheaper. Is that much different? If they really wantedto, they could pile up more debt to go to Um. But maybe that doesn't make sense for em.

Also, just because you love a girl doesn't mean you should marry her. There's more to life than emotion. Especially when it comes to big decisions.

Word. I played baseball at FIU because baseball schollies aren't 100%, so financially FIU was a much better option for me.

If you are a canes fan and you are offered by Miami then the only option is to go to UM! You cannot call yourself a Miami fan and go to FSU or Florida because then you are really not a Miami fan... at all!

As long as Miami has a competent coaching staff, I'll agree with you. I could totally see someone not wanting to sign on for the Randy Shannon era.

Exactly.

Since when does being a fan have anything to do what's best for the kid or where they feel the most comfortable? I know plenty of guys who were huge UM fans growing up but played elsewhere because it was best for them to go away but to this day they still are fans of UM. There more to it than just being a fan.

I have no problem with a kid who grew up a Miami fan ending up elsewhere. Its their decision. I do find it funny when they say "I will always be a Cane fan" though LOL Aint no **** Nole gonna be a Cane fan later on and I for one wouldn't want them to be. You choose the Noles over us, stay your *** with the Noles.

IMO there a disonance between what we as (let´s face it) hardcore cfb fans think of as a a "fan", and what these teenagers (who enjoy playing but are casual at most CFB fans) consider a "fan". Very few of these kids are really what we would consider a "fan". And tbh, when I was their age there were a couple of things that I was ever so slightly preoccupied with. But that was before freeporn on the internets....

Some say it because they don't want to burn that bridge..

Not sure what you mean?

I think some say that to scouts so if their real dream school doesn't come calling then they could fall back on their home town school..
Just my opinion not factual..

Or if the school they go to doesn't work out and they decide to transfer, they could possibly go to their "dream" school at a later date. This is why when schools miss out on a prospect, coaches don't want to burn the "relationship bridge" they built in the recruiting process.

The things that makes someone a 'fan' of a school generally are quite different than the things they evaluate when they're deciding where to go to school.

As a fan, it's generally geographic proximity, style of play, on-field results, favorite players, uniforms maybe, whether your parents/relatives root for them, whether your friends root for them, whether you're an alumnus, whether you're related to an alumnus, etc.

Fans generally don't care about academic standards (other than alumni), academic support, how the staff treats players, S&C, trainers and medical support, facilities, personalities of your teammates, whether the staff is going to be there in 2 years, getting away from home, whether the style of play fits any particular kid's strengths, depth at specific positions, etc.

you will see Cane fan attending FSU or UF

you won't see a FSU or UF fan attending the U

I think it's a sham, USNAVY. I don't think most of these young guys give a **** about UM even if they claim it's their dream school or whatever. I doubt that most are even all that knowledgeable or really care all that much about any particular college team. They're just speaking off the cuff, and if they're talking to a UM reporter they'll speak highly of UM. If they're talking to a reporter from another team's website, they'll say positive stuff about them.

There are levels of fandom. A casual UM fan can easily go to ufag or fsu because UM doesn't really matter THAT much to them. It's different if you're paying your own way (even then, I'd pay my way somewhere other than ufag or fsu, as there are a million schools out there), but football scholarships provide a full ride everywhere. So, it's not a financial issue.

Me? I'd never even think about it. But I'm also a 93 year old guy who has had his entire adult life to fortify my love for UM including spending 7 years there earning 2 degrees. If I had a kid, he'd never even consider attending ufag or fsu. It would never be an option in his mind because he'd hate them with every fiber of his being from the time he was born. To my kid, going to ufag or fsu would be like buying tickets to go watch a movie at the James Holmes Movie-Plex.

I've traveled to UM away football games for years with a group of guys who are mostly FSU grads that grew up in Miami. The one exemption played at Auburn. They're lifelong friends who all grew up in Miami. They all happy with their college experience. You won't see any of these guys cheering for FSU or UF against the U.

To be fair the guys we're recruiting now were in elementary school when we were any good. So they probably didn't really care about football at that point.

I disagree. I was the same age when they were good, and I couldnt wait to come home from saturday morning games to watch the canes play.

That argument doesn't hold water. A team doesn't have to be good for someone to become a fan of that team. Also, a team can be down for awhile and still grow it's fan base.

What do you want? An 18 year old kid to bash a school that he is being recruited by then have a bad rep?

Also, just because you love a girl doesn't mean you should marry her. There's more to life than emotion. Especially when it comes to big decisions.

A lot of kids do this. Mine went to FSU for undergrad (which saved money on the college pre-paid program), which helped afford one getting a Phd at Cal and the other an MBA at U San Fran - better for the budget.

At both schools you'd be surprised at how many Canes fan kids gather round the TV at somebody's apt to watch Canes games together and root for them, while attending the state school. So, it's still in the blood. Just the way it is.

Now, when talking schollies....that's a whole different deal for sure.

That's all I'm talking about
