huge miss by the rankings, but also a huge miss by us at the U. Fort Pierce is what two hours from campus or less? Heck FAU and FIU missed on him

There's a lot more 4-5 stars that crash and burn than there are Khalil Macks who fly under the radar then blow up.

But overall you better have a roster full of highly ranked guys if you expect to win year in and out. Developing diamonds in the rough will only get you so far.

He was a basketball player until his senior year and he was coming off of a torn patella tendon.

He was basically found by one dude who was coaching at Liberty...that coach got a job at Buffalo and took him with him.

That one dude...Robert Wimberly...a Miami, FL native. Responsible for getting Buckshot Calvert to Liberty.

Funny how that works.

Statistical outlier. Last 10 national champs (probably more) win with 4 and 5 star players and top 5 classes

Come on man, that's ironclad proof that rankings don't mean sht. If they didn't give this guy 5* and he's in the NFL it's clearly time to throw the whole system out.

These threads are always great. No one on any Miami site was talking about Mack back then.

Brian Urlacher had one offer..New Mexico State...

These stories happen but I’ll take the 4-5 stars and take my chances..

Urlacher was a 5'9" WR in the middle of oil fields until his senior year where he had a growth spurt and became the white Sean Taylor in HS. Still...he WAS offered by both FBS in-state schools.

...

Khalil Mack is maybe the worst possible example to point to for the discussion some on here want to have. Didn't play until his senior year, coming off a pretty devastating injury, and while he was pretty good (over 100 tackles as a linebacker), its not like he was the pass rushing phenomenon he is today...he had a few sacks. Mack is a great example of a scout taking a leap of faith and having a conviction on a kid he developed a relationship with.

Whats next...pointing to Shaquem Griffin as a stars don't matter argument? I mean, the kid had one hand ffs.

Whatever you guys do, don't be a dumbass like me and look at the 2009 recruiting class, specifically the 2009 LB class.

That Hamler kid on PSU is the truth. He was an IMG kid. No clue how he slipped through the cracks being as highly rated.

For every Khalil Mack there’s a Figueroa, Blue, Darius Smith, Fentress, Corey King, Junior Alexis, etc etc.

Yes there will be a Mack, an Ed Reed, a Watt, an Antonio Brown who fly under the radar....but history have shown since the beginning of time stack your team w the 4 and 5 star players along w some high, dog mentality 3 star players and 9.7/10 you’ll be winning.

Hamler was a highly touted recruit at renowned catholic power Orchard lake st Mary's in metro Detroit. He transferred to IMG after his jr season but sustained an acl inj which cost him his sr campaign.

I think Russel Maryland was flipping burgers and then Miami offer thier last ship to him(must have been Butch’s idea). First pick in draft. But my favorite is Albert Bentley — walk on at The U and rode bike to school. Still, I’ll take all the 5*s I can get, especially on online and dline.
