Miami took two running backs in 2018 and already has Marcus Crowley committed in 2019, but they are still hoping to add another back to that group. For almost the entire cycle, coach Thomas Brown has had his eyes set on 6’1’’ 210 pound University School running back Kenny McIntosh. Many people view Miami and Oklahoma as the two leaders here, but McIntosh’s did not make it out to Oklahoma’s barbeque last month and showed up in Coral Gables instead.
“I didn’t go to the barbeque because my dad didn’t want to wait four hours in the airport in Georgia. My mom didn’t want to do that. If you know my mom, you would know why. We ended up canceling it and went to the pool party for Miami. Pool party was fun talking to all those people who know me down there. It was fun down there.”
Miami’s has all their eggs in one basket here which is why they are still pushing just as hard as they have been.
“Definitely. Maybe even more. Me and Coach (Mark) Richt just had a conversation not too long ago, so I’d say more.”
Miami’s selling point to McIntosh has remained consistent throughout the entire cycle.
“They tell me how they are going to use me in the offense. Not just as a running back, but creating mismatches with the linebackers. Being able to run routes and stuff like that. Being able to put the ball in my hands, that’s what I love. Playing early, that’s definitely what I love. Education, that’s number one actually.”
McIntosh, much like many Canes fans, thinks that this 2018 Miami Hurricanes team could be something special.
“I think Miami is going to do something special this year. I think they are going to come out with a bang. I’m thinking national title. I’m looking past the bowl game and thinking national (championship). Miami is going to do something special, that’s what I’m thinking.”
While Miami and Oklahoma could be viewed as the two teams to beat, they are not the only teams still fighting for McIntosh’s services.
“Miami, Oklahoma, and Georgia pushing the hardest. Penn State could make a late push.”
McIntosh hasn’t locked any dates down yet but we can expect him to be a frequent visitor to Hard Rock Stadium this fall.
“I haven’t looked at the schedule yet, but I’m definitely going to catch a couple of games. More than other schools.”
McIntosh and U. School teammate Josh Sanguinetti grew up together and have planned on playing at the same college at the next level in the past. However, UM has not been recruiting Sanguinetti as hard lately. When asked if him and Sanguinetti were still a package deal, McIntosh looked over at Sanguinetti sitting a few feet away and said, “Hey Josh, you still think we a package deal?” Sanguinetti looked up and nodded his head yes with a smile.
