With the results he's currently getting out of Cam Newton and the buzz about him around football geeks, I'm not sure if things will ever lineup for a reunion. I wonder if, after next season, a vacated spot by Coley would be enough for someone like Ken - who is apparently on the fast-track to become an NFL OC sooner rather than later.

Anyone hear of his goals? Anyone know if he's one of those guys who prefers the NFL game?

I look forward to our next technical member of the staff. I think it's a current weakness and, with the talent coming in, it'd make a lot of guys look very, very good. We've always been at our best when we're a launching point.

I wish we had a technical guy, someone like Coach Palermo. What he did with the DL in 06 was nothing short of amazing.

Where you get Coley is going to vacate his spot after next season? You don't think he'll stick and watch Olsen, kayaa & Gibson(hopefully) develop?

He's a climber. I don't know if it'll be next season or the following, but he's here with a purpose. If he does well, I can see him making the jump relatively quickly (~3 seasons). Fair enough for all involved.

Teams around the league were signing him to be backup to their newly highly drafted QBs just so he could teach them.

I had a different impression. I just had the feeling Coley wanted to come home after jumping around for a while, and actually succeed Golden once he's gone if he can prove himself as an OC. If he has the intentions of Fisch then yeah i can see your theory too... That raising canes video of him and his family has me thinking otherwise though.

I think people underestimate Coley. Dude puts work in. He studies and works hard on technique with his qbs. Morris looked pretty **** good pre-injury; and last week, he looked pretty **** good in his first "healthy" game since the injury.

I'm afraid that I agree with you. Doubt he'll come back to the college game. In another 2/3 years he'll be an NFL OC.

Especially with Golden as our HC. Him coming here would be a step back.

I'm not discounting he's a good coach but put me in the category that position coaches often get to much credit/blame during individual seasons based on their units performance.

I'm not saying some position coaches aren't superior to others, just saying scheme and other factors are often just as important to a position coaches and individual units success.

Quit being an epic tool bag.

Of course, the overall scheme is important, as is the actual talent level. Position coaches are easy fodder when things go wrong. I'm just saying in this instance, by the eye test and the numbers, Coach Palermo had the DL producing at a level rarely (and sometimes never) seen at the school. I don't think it was a fluke or product of the system/players.

Coley could be the new HC at FIU in 2015. I would be nice to get a new DC/DL coach combo and free up a staff position for Dorsey as QB/OCC under Coley.

From the little I've heard about Coley from those who worked with him, I don't think he's looking for an FIU-like gig. I think he intended to come here and be an OC for 4 years; build a dynamic offensive juggernaut; and hope to get a top 30 HC gig (or take over if Golden were to leave).

Joe Rose had ken Dorsey on when the phins played them last week, straight up asked him if he would come coach UM, Dorsey I think took it as head coach and kinda deferred to Golden being the coach but would be kinda cool to come back. It was at the end of interview, maybe revisionist history but I found that response funny with how the question was asked...

Also Coley is definitely a climber and his move to UM was a calculated move to strike out on his own and show people he could run that side of the ball, I mentioned a couple weeks back right now at the moment his gamble might not have paid off as if he would of stayed at FSU he would of gotten same pay and been with the hottest team in america on biggest stage. He would of been hottest coaching name from assistant ranks and would of gotten atleast a couple interviews at whatever open jobs. With all the gusy FSU lost last year who all upgraded positions he would of naturally been the next, Oh well

Dorsey is the QB coach, Mike Shula is the OC. Prior to the season Steve Smith was talking up Shula bigtime and saying what an upgrade he was over Chud, which Smith perceived was more interested in auditioning during 2012 than coaching his current team.

But I say this because I'm not seeing much in the way of improved mechanics or anything technical from Newton, he remains wild and inaccurate; his biggest strides seem related to maturity. Not to hate on Ken but we may be jumping the gun here. All signs point to Shula's hire being the upgrade but let's be real, Carolina's bread is buttered defensively; though credit to someone for finally finding a proper role for Ted Ginn.

In my mind it would be great for Dorsey to be an OC because at this point we really don't know what he is or isn't.

His decision-making is markedly improved. People keep talking about how he's better with his progressions. That's the type of stuff I typically attribute, at least in part, to a position coach (since that's his responsibility). His own HC and his fellow players say the same things. I'm not pulling it from just automatically connecting Ken Dorsey to Carolina's record.

Wasn't coley throwing his name in for the fiu hc gig?

It's only right that he's our HC one day and leads us to our first Championship since he was our QB.
