Keivie Rose DT from LA Tech Hits the Portal and becomes a Hog

I think like most things, it is not black and white. You mention FSU and UGA, but those teams were/are coming from completely different situations (at least by the time Norvell got to FSU). UGA can have players leave and not have to worry about it b/c they already have 2 more kids on the roster who can step in and play; FSU did not have starting caliber players never mind backups who could play.

I have no idea if Norvell will be successful in the long run, but it seems that his strategy was to use the portal get players that could contribute right away to show recruits what was possible and that seems to be paying off this year in recruiting (so far anyway).

My concern is if Mario relies too much on recruiting and/or can't get decent players at positions of need in the portal, that we may not end up getting the recruits b/c they take time to contribute to the team in significant ways and a couple of year of losing and/or being terrible at a particular position and you lose your momentum (chicken or egg). With the ability for players to transfer so easily, it is critical that coaches find the right mix of bringing in portal players who can play now so 1) you don't lose other good players who want to play on a team that doesn't suck and 2) you can show recruits potential of what the team could be.
I don’t think recruiting will be a problem. I don’t see a way you can maintain winning by relying solely on the portal.
Even in the nfl you need a good team dynamics and culture.

People can make fun all they want and say “mARIo wAnntS culTURe bro”
But in a city like Miami you better get players with that culture of focus and discipline.
This isn’t swamp land and trailerviille.
I remember a former player in a podcast when he was asked about our bowl game a few years ago in Louisiana . He said “I can see why other teams have their sht together when they come to a place like this. There is absolutely nothing to do outside of football” it’s boring as ****.

The transfer we got from vtech a few years ago at d end also said something similar when they asked him about the lunch pail culture at vt. “We had nothing to do but hang with each other in the building”.
“At Miami we had players living all over the city and they were all out doing different things and we really couldn’t build a bond”.

Now look at what kam said on the last Miami Flo podcast when they asked him what his plans outside of football this summer:
“We got places to go and games to win. My hobby is football” “I’m taking classes to graduate early” “I do t have any time for fun right now”
“You don’t have to check on me I’m at the faculty right now”

Big difference and the results speak for themselves.

Yep , Arkansas has a chance with the last visit. He’s an Arkansas type kid. Country boy. It always felt off to me, he just didn’t seem to be jiving with the Miami scene.
Totally get it. But also, takes a special dude to wanna live in Arkansas over Miami or others

I’ve been watching 94 on film vs Clemson idk I mean it’s highlights but it’s not good for him when he’s in on some huge plays idk man maybe he’s not a big loss 🤷🏿‍♂️

I watched his mizzou game, had some solid stuff, but for the most part I wasn’t that impressed. Got really blown up in the run too. He’d be solid, but he ain’t that good, but not much real talent on DL in spring portal

What we gonna need is LT to play like Willis in 2018....All American level, and Joshua Horton to show up ready to play.
Moten has become much more important of a recruit/player than I anticipated. I just can’t expect Horton to be ready. LT and Moten step up. Deen and JHH spell them. It’s scary what I just typed out.

Tuesday those odds weren’t that high according to Miami. Maybe losing Malone ups the bag but yesterday they wasn’t confident.
yeah when I talked to you and someone else I got the exact same message. Hopefully it means the bag was raised .

His update is from Monday so that’s behind. But Malone dipping out has put them in a tight spot. Rose has some leverage, I mean if he wants to move to Miami. I think that’s the biggest issue

Kid needs to think about two things...

First, he doesn't have to live in Miami forever. Business decision.

Second, last time I checked, 31 out of 32 NFL franchises are located in large metropolitan areas. Unless he has a draft guarantee from Green Bay, he's gonna be living in a city soon somewhere.

Get him an apartment next to a walmart. He will feel right at home

Put him in Eaton. He can have my old room, 206. Give him the whole building, I think it's still empty. Let him fish in Lake Osceola every morning. Put him in charge of the ducks. Let him release a baby gator in the lake if he wants to. Do whatever it takes.

From Arkansas 247. Better news than I was expecting as I thought we’d be out of it after this visit.

Will have a story later this morning but it sounds like Arkansas is right in the thick of it. He's been to TCU and Miami prior to this one and it sounds like no other visits have been scheduled, so far. That of course can change in a hurry, but Rose plans to make a decision "pretty soon." Deke and the ability to play in the SEC are a couple of things working in Arkansas' favor but this one is far from a slam dunk. That can be said of everybody now.

Not bad…

Is TCU the slight favorite as of today?
