we said the same thing about Davon Johnson and then last year he was quite a pleasant surprise. Who knows what can happen.

Rodgers played much better towards the end of 2012. Either you're too blinded by your hate to have noticed, or you simply don't watch the games.

Him and AJ aren't U caliber players. Hopefully with Carter and Burns coming in, we won't see too much more of them in the near future.

Neither he, nor AJ, are 'UM caliber' safeties, but at least AJ doesn't shy away from being physical and is a top effort guy. For depth, you take guys like AJ any day of the week.

Rodgers, however, has a whole lot to show before I won't cringe at the thought of him getting PT.

On occasion. If you aren't willing to admit he is far too often a major liability back there, then you have your own bias. I never rule a kid out, unless he is just limited physically. KC has some great physical tools, so it's always possible he may turn the corner.

In general he's not that good. But he did seem to at least not give up as many plays when we started to moving him to the nickelback spot. He actually made a play on a few passes.

If they're on the two-deep and there's nobody better, then yes, they are UM caliber because UM isn't proving that we can get much better than them.

It means they're still seeing minutes because of their experience and maturity, but talent wise, they have no business at Miami. Deon Bush is a Miami safety. Jamal Carter coming in, Miami quality. Miami CAN get better -- Shannon couldn't.

IMO, when a player is playing bad, or not up to par...the thing he's usually lacking is confidence (if talent isn't the issue). Coach is probably trying to build his KC's mind. Coach Paul W. is that type of guy. Cool, calm, collected, and knows how to train a kid mentality (mindfreak like Phil Jackson), I've met him before.

Transitioning from the CB position, into understanding whats required physically at the saftey position, sometimes it takes a while.

I beleive a kid can turn the corner. And KC has reason...his dad has NFL coaching experience, and im sure there's some motivation to turn things up during his SR year to reach the league. That's the goal of most SR's

After all, he didn't have anyone in front of him to lead by example. VT & Ray Ray missed tackles for fun. He now has guys to push him.

I think there's hope for KC, but Highsmith on the other hand, wouldn't be surprised if Fentress steals his playing time.

You don't give up on a kid who is still on the roster. Coaches try to develop and motivate players as long as they are here. Sometimes they surprise you in their last year.

Rodgers played very well in the last few games. I remember some nice plays near the LOS. He has showed me plenty to think he is a valuable Senior to have off the bench.

I grew up with AJ Highsmith. He's a great kid. A lot of schools in the country would be lucky to have him, and theres a good handful where he would be starting at Quarterback. Nothing wrong with having 2 Seniors back there backing up Bush and Jenkins who can fill in well and know there spots. Carter looks like the goods and I'm sure we will get back to DB U but I don't see any reason to bash Seniors who have worked hard in practice for 4 years. Shannon is gone, let it go.

Excellent post.

I just hope Rodgers figures out how to tackle properly. I'm sick of seeing him wrap up around people's necks.

Go back and watch the tape. In the second half of the season Rodgers made dramatic improvement while playing nickel slot position.

Williams had two true freshmen safeties that had little to no experience at the position playing like beasts at the end of the season. I aint gonna argue with him.

When are y'all gonna learn that this coaching staff actually develops players?

Y'all are talking like this because everyone is still conditioned to believe that players play the same for their entire careers, because that's what happened under Shannon and Coker. Well that's not how it's supposed to work. The coaches are supposed to get the players to be better as their career goes on and Golden has had enough reclamation projects at this point to put some faith in his development of players.

Kacy and AJ will both be serviceable this year, I presume.
