Just watched game again-score was not reflective of game

These are my thoughts - many of which have been stated here.

1. FSU HAD to put a few long drives to score in which they were forced AND sadly converted many third downs. We stop 1 or 2 third downs and it is a different game. The reason I think this is key is that it can be done. It is not as if FSU was making plays of 10 yards each time they touched the ball. We just could not get them off the field. ONE OR TWO stops- that is what we needed.

2. Our Oline was blowing them off the field in the 1st half until we started running stretch plays and getting cute with our running. We have the strength to go at them.

3. Morris-Waters quick slant was a TD if not for the bad throw but Morris had played a pretty good game until then.

4. Morris-Coley was also a TD on the sideline but Coley got alligator arms.

5. ***** JERNIGAN

6. Our boys played pretty hard but we did not get off the field. They were up for the game for sure.

7. Winston did nothing special other than the scrambles. Not saying he is not good but the throws Morris made were better. The difference is that Winston KNOWS when to check down and does it.

Just saw Morris overthrow Coley in the 2nd on 3rd and long and the replay showed Duke sliding out of backfield for what would have been a nice gain, but Morris chunked it long.

Honestly I think we were lucky to be in it in the first half. The score could have been worse.
FSU just took what we gave them... that's why you didn't see a lot of big plays from them. But that's not exactly a success when you give up 550 yards of offense. In fact just the opposite. How the **** do you give up 550 yards & you really didn't give up big gains?

D'Onofrio.... that's how.

That missed FG also sucked....we would have had a lead after the first TD to Hurns if we had made that.

LOL @ blaming D'Onofrio for not shutting down a top 5 offense that has been unstoppable all year with players like Gaines, Highsmith, Cornelius, Renfrow, Green, etc playing significant snaps. You are delusional.

D'onofrio is the reason we were even in the game in the 1st half and not getting blown out from the start. They're offense is legit and it could have been a lot uglier for us.

Our only two scores were created by turnovers that the defense produced. Just last week FSU put up 35 in the first quarter. He held them to 21 in the 1st half with a bunch of players who have no business on a Canes roster. You don't know what you're talking about.

Same old tired story, different names.

And THIS is why the FSU game was not closer, and why our offense has been struggling. Morris simply cannot go through his progressions and find the open receiver. There are open receivers, there are holes in the defense to exploit, he just cannot find them.

BS.

Read and React is "reactive."

"Reactive" takes a second or two in hesitation. Hesitation in football costs you games. Yards. Sacks. Blocked passes. One second is everything.

Recall how close we came to getting our hands on Winston. A half-second faster, and we'd have sacked his *** four or five times, and pressured him several more. That half-second delay that results from this hesitation scheme is why QB's have lots of time to find open receivers.

The offense may be legit, but Morris is far from legit. He can't throw short passes, has NEVER thrown a decent screen, he has tunnel vision, and he's NEVER going to run down his checkdowns. Never. Fisch had him doing a better job the last four games from last year, but Fisch is gone.

And Fisch had to compensate for D'Onofrio's **** poor defensive scheme. Coach D is used to having **** poor players with no speed, and letting opposing teams run up and down the field on his MAC defenses. Thus, "Bend, not Break" BS. He's got some speed, some players, but for God's sake, you gotta take the chains off of them. Golden's one glaring mistake was bringing a friend.

You never, EVER hire a friend or family. Because you can't do what needs to be done when it needs doing.

The two touchdowns? I guarantee, Morris intended to go to them before the ball was hiked. No thinking, no checkdowns, no options.

41 points? Really? So if we're getting better, next year think we can cut it down to maybe 35?

Wow i now know which posters were delusional to think we have a NC type roster this year

I'm not a mope but take off the homer glasses and realize who we are and that this team is a couple years of top talent and more important quality depth away from a true "top5" team with a NC caliber roster

I'm watching the replay now. Highsmith was turrible and our front 7 is inconsistent. We show flashes but, for the most part we got pwned when it mattered. People talk about switching QBs... Gimme Edwards and Jernigan.

Morris hasnt looked at an open RB in the flat since 1st play OF THE SEASON

SMDH

Forced Winston into 2 picks in half which is equal to his season total. But Coach D sucks.... Had guys in position to make sacks but they miss.
U realized that game will keep Winston from winning the heisman!? Highsmith burned at least 8 times but it's coach D. Gaines burned by O Leary but it's coach D.

These boards boring these days with the Anti cordinators rhetoric.

Our quarterbacking philosophy has changed ever since the days of Jacory. We ask our QB to be "the guy" when in all actuality he needs to be "the guy giving it to the guys".

the 11-15 3rd down conversions against this defense was the reason Miami got blown out, simple as that.

We were so very close to getting another four or five sacks, and if it weren't for the hesitation and slowing of our DL's by being forced to go head's up, we could likely have gotten those sacks, and several more hurries.

And that additional time for a QB results in more completions - like the ones you point out.

So yes, I still think the scheme sucks balls. And since D'Onofrio is the scheme, yes, I think he's in over his head.

One thing I noticed that I must blame OC Coley for . Is the weird/ retarded way we run play action.

We have a right handed QB and we decide to line our RB on his right side, so when he fakes the hand off Morris has to do a 180 turn and throw across his body to the left?

WTF!! is that?

Line up the RB to his left so he can roll to his right, Gaud Dammit!! Much easier throw Coley!!

maybe he sets it up like that for a reason

How many of you remember the UM-Miami game in 2001. Classic game that we won 18-7 in Chestnut Hill.

That BC team had no business talent wise being on the same field with the mighty Canes. And yet, they almost pulled off what would have been one of the biggest upsets in the history of college football.

Why, you ask? Because their DC had thrown in different looks and wrinkles that were really confusing Ken Dorsey, which forced him into 4 picks that afternoon. Dorsey was as cerebral a QB as you will ever see at the college level. The Eagles were just really prepared with a great game plan that almost won them the game.

If it wasn't for Mike Rumph, Matt Walters and Ed Reed saving our asses that day, we would have been up ****'s creek...without a paddle...with a freakin crocodile about to chomp down on our asses.

Scheme isn't the end all, but neither is having to have supreme talent. If not, there would never be upsets in any sport. Scheme plus talent = greatness. Right now, we don't possess a plethora of either.

Next 2 to 3 years, if we recruit really well, and coach D adjusts his scheme, we could really have something special.

But, like UMFarArcher stated, it's time to take the chains of the young guns. Let these dogs hunt. They're hungry and wanna feed . But it's hard to do that when you're being taught to react rather than to SEEK AND DESTROY. Even the players that aren't that good will gain confidence from playing like the hunters, and not the hunted.

In closing, I definitely see a better team that what we had under Blandy. But, being objective, we are still a ways away. It's gonna take more talent and a little loosening of the reins on our boys scheme wise from Al and coach D. It's all about the U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
