Just got off the phone with Keith Bryant

Watching Todd Chandler outplay and out work Marcus Forston on an almost weekly basis let most of our knowledgeable fans know what we were most likely getting. I don't have an opinion on Keith Bryant yet but I disagree that Marcus Forston was supposed to be "that guy".

He maybe had an alright chance to be a difference maker but then he never really even flashed work ethic in his HS games. Marcus Forston really had little shot of living up to his 5 star billing if you ask me. I never expected him to be some monster.

Agreed. He was quick and fluid for his size, and played a good all star game back in HS.

Forston was suppose to be that guy. Frosh AA....all the signs pointed toward him dominating then the injury big hit. Not once did I see anyone say Forston would bust until after the fact.

I don't think "bust" is the word people used. But with such high expectations, there were lots of doubts, I definitely remember. Still, people expected him to contribute a lot more than he did.

Forston played like he was on roller skates, he was just dominated at times at the point of attack. Hopefully Bryant turns out to be the player some of us thought Forston would turn into.

I'll have a full interview up later, but here are some of the highlights.

-USC visit was nice, but Says he's fully committed to Miami "I'm going to Miami"
-He wanted to take visits because "you're only a recruit once"
-Says he will be at every home game this year
-Something that sticks out about Miami is the fact that they were the first big school to offer
-Nothing to worry about here

YORO

Bailey was a physical freak, but I would not call him a throw back in the sense that it's being applied to Bryant. I think they are referring specifically to the DT position and having someone that is explosive and plays with a mean streak. Allen played hard, but he never was the dominant DL that we had hoped he would become. Allen wasn't bad, he just wasn't dominant. According to the pundits, Bryant has the talent to go down as a great interior d-lineman in the mold of Sapp, Tez, Maryland, JB, etc. That's what our program has lacked forever. The ability to cause havoc just with our DL.

We've been waiting nearly a decade for a DT recruit like this. Quickness and nastiness. A true throwback.

Marcus was supposed to be that Guy.

As for a throwback let's not forget about Allen Bailey. I like this kid too. Dare I say Sapp-esck nastiness. Grades looks to be the last hurdle. What have people heard? What's the general consensus ?

This. The issue with Forston wasnt "bust." it was whether he was as good a prospect as his press clippings and some fans made him out to be. From when he was at MNW, my view was no. Not stout enough or tough enough and didnt have a consistent effort, IMO. I remember getting into it on grassy with some folks, Lu included, IIRC, who were excited about him heading into his junior year. 'Why?', was my question.

Never cared for Forston....always thought Chandler was waaay better in HS. Damned shame he (Chandler) didn't end up here.
