Just got accepted into Miami - Any info on the school / city

before any recommendations i need some questions answered

1. preferences of poison (Coke, Weed or Pills)
2. type of women you like (Latin, white girls, black girls, Russian girls)
3. bar or clubs?
4. you like strip clubs?
5. how much money you got to spend (tight college budget, chillin money or make it rain money?)

Hey guys, I know this is football forum, but I figured this would be a good place to find some info on people that are familiar with Miami. As the title says I was lucky enough to just get accepted into the Graduate School at Miami and just wanted to get some info on the school / city. I know all the academic stuff about the specific program I applied to but I feel as if first hand accounts of the school, campus, and city would be useful.

I know its a very broad question but any useful information you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm from a small city, Columbia, SC (where I did my undergrad, hence the username) but have never lived in a major city such as Miami.

not believing you're accepted until I see you in a classroom taking notes.

Which program? Advice would vary a little if you're going to be on the main campus vs. the med school or RSMAS.

More expensive to live than what you're used to. Northernmost capital of South America, great weather, great food, horrible traffic, over painted women with bright red lipstick, you will meet few people who actually are originally from there.

You will have an opportunity to learn that immigrants from Spanish speaking countries come in many ethnic varieties as well as races, that folks who think all hispanics are the same have no clue at all. English is a minority language so avoid asking for directions because people who have no clue will cheerfully assist you. Always lock your car.

If you want to change traffic lanes simply looking and expecting cars to give way will not work, options are plan well ahead or move over aggressively or fire a burst across the hood of the car next to you to let them know you're coming. Give way to the guy/gal in the beemer, they're busily talking on their phone.

You will celebrate the day you leave and be strangely attracted to return, don't do it, unless you just want to drop in to eat something on the way to the Keys.

It's a nice little campus near The Grove, which has some interesting events. The football team changed the way the game was historically played and may actually return to being significant while you're there.

It's only for the strong, I wish you success in your adventure. Don't forget to keep your car locked. If possible keep your license plates and buy your car insurance back home. Don't take this website too seriously.

It's the Master's of Arts in International Administration. It can only be a 1 year program if I lock the schedule down right.

Class of '95. Loved it. But my tuition was $16,000, which my father paid straight out. However, I incurred student loan debt in medical school of $40k a year (which I heard is the current same price of Miami undergrad right now). So, just the pain in the *** to pay that, I would encourage you to look elsewhere for school. Tuition is a beast now a days.

Pick up a lil spanish, start eating hella pork and start getting familiar with drinkin shot-sized cups of cuban coffee.

Start a ponzi scheme, hang with football players, go on Yacht trips, have bowling parties, get field passes for home games, and don't get caught.

I'd strongly recommend find an apartment in South Miami. 5 minute commute to school and you can walk to a huge amount of stuff from your apartment.

It's Heaven for those with an IQ above four. If you don't miss it every day after you leave, your fvcked up. Welcome and you sir are a Cane4Life. You can't afford it while your there but you sure as **** can after you leave. []_[][]V[]

Won't get by admissions --- sounds like an SEC lean

Yes.

But not sure you want to use Cane4Life -- that may mean he is part of the family or a rambling message board poster void of brevity and the proper use of paragraphs -- passionate fellow though.

****yCane, I am a MAIA/INS Alum and know your future program quite well.
I live abroad now but will be flying back end of the month so shoot me a message and I will buy you your first drink at the Ratskeller (or what's left of it).
Will be there also first week of Fall semester if that's when you get in, so it applies also.
Just pledge that you will attend all home games and a couple on the road and I will give you a few tips on MAIA
As for advice on the city, Chuckles is 100% accurate

No one is going to recommend Overtown or Liberty City?

But really, get ready for a little culture shock. I grew in in S Florida, and learned to drive there. I was really an aggressive driver, and that was just to fit in. Moved to Charleston SC and got mad at the other drivers for being soft. It was a real shock. The other aspect is that down there, everyone is into their body and looks. First time walking through the Citadel Mall I was wondering where all the ugly and slobby people were coming from.

Only thing I would differ with is that Miami is the northern capital of Cuba rather than South America. The city is run by Cubans. Other Hispanics are second class citizens. If you don't speak Spanish, good luck. Gables, however, is not Miami, at least that's how I remember it.
