Judd Anderson SR HL

Some good, some so so imo

I was never against this take. And I think he's still worth it. I'm no qb expert.

Good: Accuracy over the middle of the field. Seems to be good at finding the window and not afraid to put it on the receiver. Velocity is definitely there and ball gets there in plenty of time. Was really impressed with him on intermediate routes the way he even buys time and gets thru his progressions. Seems to have improved with footwork and moving in the pocket. Decent feel there. Size and straight line speed. Release looks fine and pretty natural.

Needs Work: Doesn't always lead receivers well. And too much air on a lot of deep balls…Accuracy on deep balls. Tends to under throw them. Basically oppo TVD but same result, TVD not enough air, this kid too much air, but both balls end up under thrown. I mean this kid really throws his deep balls high and kids have to adjust.
Yeah I don’t think people are necessarily against him (well some are) I think he’s just getting the heat because of how poorly we’ve managed the QB spot

He’s got some tools you can’t teach so figure work on the ones you can

If this kid is sitting #4 on the depth chart next year I don’t think anyone complains but the way we’ve been messing around you don’t want him to have to be put into action

We can't all be great and shoot the **** with Kurt Warner. Will be awesome to see your expertise put to the test since you have bandwagoned Emory and now Judd. I only stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.

not bandwagoning anyone. that’s not how this business works.

The problem is we are only recruiting QB4's. Gg

but you are cute henry cavill GIF

Good pocket presence. Might need to work on his base which is causing the accuracy issues at times. Also i dont think his OL was particularly good. He regularly had pressure and was ok overall. Would love a multi year starter out the portal to give all these guys time. Nickel is more polished.

More mobile than I expected. Decent footwork, moved around and stepped up in the pocket. Good at finding guys when the play breaks down which is a great trait to have in college. I can see what Dawson likes.

His arm strength leaves a lot to be desired…especially for a kid his size. Couple under thrown go routes and his out route throws are going for 6 in college.

Had a couple balls that should have been picked on his film, I counted at least 3.

His ball placement / accuracy needs work. I’m not an expert with QB footwork / release but that could be causing the issues I saw. Good amount of balls where he threw it behind and didn’t lead his man. His receivers were solid and bailed him out a lot.

stash him for 2-3 years and see what happens.

I’m okay with the take. He’s decent, appears to have strong arm. Combine elite physical attributes with elite work ethic and you might have something to develop. I say take him, CJB, and a multi year portal QB….let them compete and let the best man win

Clearly has good size - looks good standing in the pocket. Decent straight line speed once he gets going. Steps up in the pocket nice and tall looking down field.
I like the throw at 1:09. I wonder how much velocity he actually has on his throws. It looks like they should have more, could just be because of the tape tho.
idk if it's me but his upper body/arm and legs look a little disconnected when he throws or something. Think I just don't like his footwork (as in his footwork throwing - not pocket movements)

in true CIS fashion - since everyone thinks he's trash, he'll end up being good

Let's hope you're correct!

Wait, am I supposed to say you're wrong?

**** if I know. Just trying to get this CIS curse thing down so he succeeds. Hmm, maybe it's so I can be right when he fails or some ****. Confused. I give up.

I like his composure, eyes, pocket awareness and he's showing some athleticism in those highlights.

Something to work with.

I just want to know if he scans the field at this level. And does he see it and make a choice. We won’t know till he hits the field.

I agree with this. He seems to be the Anti-TVD in more than just deep ball trajectory which I'll touch on later. He is also very able and willing to use the middle of the field which was severely lacking in our offense under Dawson. Dawson seems to really like this kid and I can see the potential here. Anderson looks much more capable of running that slow deliberate check with me garbage that we always seemed to go back to when the tempo spread stuff was working urghhhh! Anyway I feel Anderson is a very good fit for the power spread that Urban ran with Tebow but is Dawson even interested or capable of running that? No I don't think so. So unless Dawson leaves and we get someone like Dan Mullen or Ponce at OC, I can't see that happening.

Back to his deep ball. It sucks! I actually liked his Junior tape better in this regard. His senior tape is full of these floating ducks and dying quails that he throws up a mile straight up in the air while the receiver has to stop or break off their route and stand there like they are fair catching a punt. No way he gets away with that at the P5 level. He is going to have to work on that a ton. I like his pocket presence, his ability to go through his progressions and his ability to escape the pocket and beat the defense for easy first downs by running the ball. Certainly not a super agile runner like a D'erique King but Anderson is also 10 inches taller. Anderson is a decent prospect at the P5 level who has many intriguing characteristics. He's a toolsy developmental type who will be much better suited to certain schemes/systems than others. As long as Dawson knows how to use him, Anderson could be a very effective ACC QB with 2 years of development with an emphasis on general accuracy and deep ball mechanics/release. Could be a TE prospect if QB doesn't work out but I'm not sure of his speed and agility not to mention hands.

Are we just going with the narrative that he sucks or are yall watching the film? He looks more relaxed in the pocket than TVD does right now 😂

Listen I’m good with this as qb 2. He’s raw but I see potential and he has physical tools. He also looks much better versus last year but this can’t be qb 1 in your class.

Exactly. If there was a QB1 with a high floor in the class I’d be all for taking Anderson. Or if we had two legit starters already on roster. We don’t even have one right now.

The senior highlights show physical attributes and pocket presence. Not great accuracy or arm strength. Jury is out on Dawson in my book. He was hired way too late and Mario bro ball is a thing. But 2024 is going to tell us all we need to know.
