Realistically, we don't have a shot. I taught undergrads in Mississippi. The typical student from the area he is from won't qualify academically at the U.

At this point in the recruiting season, it's obvious the Miami wants to bring in some junior college defensive linemen to help right away. A new name that has popped up on the radar is Lavon Hooks (6'4", 295) of Northeast Mississippi Community College. Hooks spoke about the type of defensive tackle he is.

"I think I'm a high D-1 explosive player. I'm more of a pass rusher."

Hooks' list of offers is impressive and includes Miami, Nebraska, West Virginia, Mississippi State, Penn State.

"The two that are sticking out are Nebraska and Miami. Nebraska talks to me a lot and I usually talk to Coach Franklin from Miami two or three times a week. He tells me I could fit into their program and make an impact next year."

Hooks has set his visit to Coral Gables for December 6th. It will be his final visit before the December 16th date that he plans to sign his letter of intent on.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the campus and see if it would be a fun place to live. I also want to see high intensity from the coaches."

Hooks will be taking a visit tonight to one of his top choices.

"I'm going to Nebraska tonight, I'm pretty excited because it's my first official."

He doesn't have a timetable for when he will make his choice.

"I'll make my final decision whenever I feel comfortable really."

sidenote: Hooks played receiver in high school.

Isn't the whole point of JUCO (or at least one) that if your grades suck in HS you can make up for them and get a fresh start in two years?
