I’m worried that he doesn’t think Gattis was at faultI agree but its a weak look not being able to fire a dude
I don’t think Mario hasn’t fired him bc he doesn’t like firing people I think it’s a way bigger issue than that.
I think he’s worried that if he fires Gattis, JG says to anyone who will listen, “I couldn’t work with Mario he insisted we try things that didn’t match the players while I argued against it and now he fired me after one year.” Mario already has a reputation for being too hands on and holding the offense back.
An OC might not want to come if they feel Mario will prevent them from being successful since we still don’t have the pieces to make his “we’re just bigger stronger faster than you” approach work yet.
Then he’ll fire you to save face and set you back years even if you just won the Broyles award.
That's been my biggest concern. Gattis is the biggest “blamer” in the sport (blames Michigan for not making him HC in the corny text to former players, blames talent and injuries for pitiful performance, throws TVD under the bus to ESPN reporter and calls him a bad leader basically). Mario knows it’ll be challenging to find someone else imo
He might still be looking and he’ll fire Gattis if he finds someone better or if Gattis stops performing his recruiting duties, but I don’t think Mario wants to deal w the rep hit Gattis will throw at him in his attempt to save face after being canned
