Jordan Lyle (is not hurt)

There seems to be a debate on this board that behind Martinez, there is not a single back on the roster, that is healthy, that can be a playmaker.

In my opinion Jordan Lyle will be the 2nd best RB on this roster and that’s including a healthy Mark Fletcher. As a senior, he ran for 1,376 and 21 TDs on 10.6 yards per carry, while catching 13 passes for 177 yards and 1 TD, against very good competition. Coming in at 6-0 205 he has more than enough size to handle physicality of this level of football.

On3 #1 RB in the class of 2024 https://x.com/On3Recruits/status/1752482008716976144

In his senior highlights, you see a back with great vision, amazing balance, game breaking speed, and a physical running style who never goes down on first contact.https://www.hudl.com/video/3/15321847/657a65907bdd2a0bfcd4e9e9

Look at the balance

Runs the DB over then runs away from the rest of the team

Lyle is a beast

Is this where Miami sucks again, again?

Im really gonna look at Dawson sideways if his only way to get playmakers the ball is that same west virginia pitch pass the destroyed clemson with in OB. This guy has to be more innovative, heck IDGAF if he out right steals plays (the BEST do it!) The dolphins are RIGHT DOWN the street and they just had achane run primarily on edge for NFL record yards per carry..

Get that speed in SPACE, I know he isnt a known commodity and more like watered down distant cousin of air raid tree but cotdam..

Nothing innovative about that play friend.

Crazy the way people have already written off CJJr.
I thought Johnson he was doing great so far this year in practice. He looked great in the two games with only 11 carries. Was hoping he would had more in that crowded back field. He had the highest avg. of all running backs at 6.6 yards after B Smith.

All were late in the two games but he was playing behind the 2nd and 3rd sting O-line which never looked like he had any inside openings to run through. Nothing compared to the 1st team O-line.

CJJr's high school reel looked great breaking lots of tackles running inside. Only HS but was not getting knocked down on the first tackle.

I think the debate is that we may not have a PROVEN option behind Martinez. We are hoping Lyle is ready but like all freshmen, you never really know until the lights come on
In todays transfer/NIL world your not going to see backfields stacked….

I think Allen is a serviceable back to spell Martinez while mixing in I think a future stud in CJ as a 3rd down mismatch back

It’s always the new guy…until it isn’t.

We did this with Nyjalik Kelly, Citizen (unfortunate injury), Moss, Skinner…that’s just the 2022 shiny toys. Go back a decade plus of doing this every offseason.

Let’s pump the brakes on the new guys, because history shows for every Bain and Mauigoa, there’s 100 that don’t do jack in Year 1. The transition from HS to college isn’t as easy as people think it is.

Martinez is going to wear down opposing front 7’s with 16-20 carries a game. His YAC is absurd. He’s one of the more physically imposing RBs in college, and can handle a big workload. That’s why we brought him here.

And then boom - Chris Johnson as RB2 will blow by rotating / tired DL’s. 6-8 touches a game imo to start, Allen a quality third option as change-of-pace guy until Fletcher comes back for more physicality.

No knock on Lyle, but I’d be surprised if he has any impact this year outside of blowouts.

I hear the best OCs say they play to their players strengths, You got a stick of dynamite you should want to get your players in space.. If our OC says we cant use X player because we are a inside zone attack, I might run on field.. :jordan:
Fair enough. I was referring to the core rushing attack but there are plenty of plays to get CJ in space. We saw some of them last year. We just didn't see them enough.

Not comparing the 2, but Brashard was another who was misused. The guy had our 2 longest and most explosive plays of the year. Yet we never found a way to incorporate him in the offense. Any common sense OC or coach says we have a playmaker. Utilize him the best way we can in the confines of our offense. X earned his playing time and not saying he should have sat a couple plays. Just saying gotta learn or know how to get YOUR GUYS on the field and put them in the best situations. I mean if I retuned a KO for TD, caught a 40+yd TD and had an 80+yd run. I would expect to touch the ball a bit more. That’s just me.

Gonna sit patiently and cook on cfb25 til he get his chance in real life lol.. If Dawson cant be get the kid in space I dont know what to say..

Off-topic question.
Players get paid for this, yes?

I don’t think anyone has but he’s not built like a guy who’s ready for a full time role. Get him 5-7 touches per game where you can scheme him up some space because if he’s left in their to pass block he’s not gonna offer much at this point.

I just hope there's not a lot of the ol' "he's not ready yet" from the fan boys. Let the kid cook out there this year rather than bury him on the bench b/c he's not great at pass pro yet (which he probably won't be b/c of his size).
