Jimmy

It was technically bear bryant who started the four finger raise, but it was Howard and UM who put it on the map.

Bama was all about the bear. UM was all about the players, which is why I believe it took off when UM did it.

Either way, its ours, *******!!! lol

Hot. Dam.

When was that?

And who were the boosters sitting in the front rows? Some goofy-looking dudes.

Those weren't boosters in the front row, they are Cane legends. Guy in the orange shirt is Thom Lehman, two time All American Pitcher for Ron Fraser and still holds the UM record for consecutive innings pitched without a walk at 56. He had the best record in the country in 1966, I think was the year. He owned Hallett Pontiac for many years. Still attends almost every baseball game sitting over by third base.

Wow! Thank you for posting. I can still remember Jimmy's Canes holding up four fingers at the start of the fourth quarters (as in, "We own the fourth quarter because we are in better condition").

A lot of people forget that Miami started that four fingers in the air.

No cowards on this team.
Wrong
We started a lot of Sh*t, but not this. Just google it. Here's what I found. Howard brought this to Miami, not Jimmy. FWIW

The four fingers represent the statement that "The Fourth Quarter is Ours." This gesture has been copied by many college (and high school) teams after being originated by the Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant-coached teams at the University of Alabama in the 1970s.

Contrary to some falsely held beliefs, former Miami Hurricanes coach Jimmy Johnson did NOT originate the practice during the 1980s.

I remember Arkansas Razorback fans using the four finger "Fourth Quarter is Ours" gesture during the 1960's. If I remember correctly we Arkansas fans began using this sign after winning the first 2 games of the 1964 season with fourth quarter comebacks. It may have been suggested by coach Frank Broyles.
It definitely did not originate in the 1970's.
Jimmy Johnson was a starter on the 1964 Arkansas Razorbacks & may have taken the historic gesture to Miami with him.

Maybe jimmy started it in Arkansas.

I'll never forget Golden on with Joe Rose shortly after his hiring. He made the comment that he had long talks with Bill Parcells and Jimmy Johnson, two guys he views as idols of his. He went to them for advice, and both said the main issue they could see when looking at the Hurricanes was a complete and utter lack of strength, size, and conditioning. Talent aside, physically, we did not look like a major BCS program.

That always stuck out to me.

I remember this as well. It's taken 3 long years to turn it around. We only move forward from here.
