I know this video has already gotten some play but it just seems so perfect for this past weekend and captures what I believe was a real turning point in the team's physical and mental development.

Just had to re-post for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

U Tough!

I was thinking about this video in the second half. The defense had been on the field for an eternity, but they never backed down. It was incredibly impressive; it speaks volumes about UTough, and the players' commitment in the off season.

Things work differently at the U - how cool it is that Al could bring in a former UM coach to be that guest motivational speaker, to say those particular things about the program, and not some outside 3rd party dude talking from observation vs first hand history that Jimmy can speak from.

Great to be baby...

Wow! Thank you for posting. I can still remember Jimmy's Canes holding up four fingers at the start of the fourth quarters (as in, "We own the fourth quarter because we are in better condition").

Great stuff by Jimmy as usual.

Major props to the defense. That unit faced 3 and 2 all game long and never showed any cowardice. Logging 38 minutes just shows that this unit is not only physically tough, but it is mentally tough as well.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the first thought I had after the gator game went back to '85. JJ lost that game against the gator wearing orange bottoms and tops. He vowed to never wear those combinations again. I walked out of Sun Life thinking how fitting it was to beat the gator while getting redemption for JJ's superstition.

It's always great to beat the gator!!

I think Howard's team started the four finger.....could be wrong

Yeah, It was Howard that started that tradition at Miami. He was an assistant on quite a few of Bear Bryant's coaching staffs, back in the day. That's where he picked it up. It became OUR tradition when Howard got to the U. When Miami started whipping *** left and right under him, and more people around the country were able to tune in on the television and watch, It hit the nation and it spread like wildfire.

A lot of people forget that Miami started that four fingers in the air.

No cowards on this team.

Hot. Dam.

When was that?

And who were the boosters sitting in the front rows? Some goofy-looking dudes.

Wrong
We started a lot of Sh*t, but not this. Just google it. Here's what I found. Howard brought this to Miami, not Jimmy. FWIW

The four fingers represent the statement that "The Fourth Quarter is Ours." This gesture has been copied by many college (and high school) teams after being originated by the Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant-coached teams at the University of Alabama in the 1970s.

Contrary to some falsely held beliefs, former Miami Hurricanes coach Jimmy Johnson did NOT originate the practice during the 1980s.

I remember Arkansas Razorback fans using the four finger "Fourth Quarter is Ours" gesture during the 1960's. If I remember correctly we Arkansas fans began using this sign after winning the first 2 games of the 1964 season with fourth quarter comebacks. It may have been suggested by coach Frank Broyles.
It definitely did not originate in the 1970's.
Jimmy Johnson was a starter on the 1964 Arkansas Razorbacks & may have taken the historic gesture to Miami with him.
