Both are atrocious. At this point no idea if they look worse because of scheme though. I keep telling myself players can't be that dumb continuously. There was a play in the first half. Duke's black qb was in shotgun, with RB at his right. Ball is snapped and RB flares right. But as ball is snapped Gaines is blitzing since his responsibility is the RB and the RB is next to the qb. But, the RB didn't even hesitate to flare. Gaines l, sees the RB flare and is still taking about two steps towards the qb, hesitates to follow rb to his left!!!! Result, qb throws it to RB and it goes for like 10 yards and a first down or something. Here's the kicker, if Gaines doesn't hesitate and follows his effen assignment, two things happen: a) his turtleness perhaps gets there in time to make a play or b) the qb is forced to hold on to the ball longer and check out to another option. If (b) had happened it just so happens that our right DE beat the LT and got there a split second after the ball is released!! I replayed it. It stuck with me.
Their 4th and 1 in the fourth also stuck with me. Everyone on the left of line (renfrow and Pierre) got to the backfield deep. RB makes right read and slides left where green gets blown up and does don't either penetrate or hold the line. Cornelius too gets pushed off by the TE like he weighs 150lbs. And boom there is your hole with #26 then whiffing the tackle...TD.
Again I want another philosophy another DC. I am not sure if these guys playing are dumb or just not right for the system making it worse. Who knows.
