Jermaine Johnson

Why are people so positive Seantrel is leaving? I know he hasn't lived up to expectations, but he's still one of our better lineman, doesn't seem to be unhappy and he doesn't seem like a lazy cancer that the coaches would want to get rid of. Players seem to love him, he fought through back surgery that was supposed to force him out for much of last season and he's lost 60+ pounds since the end of his freshman year. I'm probably missing something, so please fill me in, but the negatives I recall under Golden are a brief suspension at the beginning of spring ball and arriving a day or 2 late for a summer school session. Anything else? I'm not going to rip a guy for having a tough time dealing with multiple deaths is a short time period and being a bad driver.

Seantrel leaving wouldn't make him a bad person. Assuming he finishes the season strong I don't think it's out of the question for him to be a relatively high draft pick (round 4 or below).

Assuming Seantrel leaves after this season:

LT Bunche
LG Feliciano
C McDermott
RG Linder
RT Flowers

2nd team:

LT Gadbois
LG Isidora
C Wheeler
RG Wells
RT Johnson

solid

Solid? Maybe on the starters. Nothing about the depth says solid to me. We'd be one injury away from a mess.

Isidora and Wheeler can play. Johnson can serve in a pinch. I think it's pretty good depth for a college program.

There's been lofty expectations for Johnson for a while on a lot of boards and now hes sitting 9th or 10th on the depth chart as a redshirt junior. Obviously nice to have depth but maybe I'm guilty for buying into all the NFL or starting LT expectations that have been floating around.

You have the right idea. I gave up on Jermaine Johnson after five plays. He's simply not athletic enough, with klutz tendencies. He was hyped in spring 2010 so I took a look, at that spring game played at Dade North. Johnson couldn't bend his knees or waist properly. No pop. Gangly. He specialized in losing his balance. I immediately posted a spring game recap on the Rivals free board and said we could forget about the hype on Jermaine Johnson.

Now, the past two seasons a young tackle has similarly been touted during spring. Malcolm Bunche was markedly preferable to Johnson but you had to worry about the less than ideal agility, particularly if we insist in using him on the left side. Not until I saw Ereck Flowers at left tackle last spring at Sun Life did I have any confidence in the people responsible for the hype.
