Jermaine Grace senior highlights

One of my favorites. Did a bigtime double take in the Debo Williams thread where someone said Debo > Grace. Would like an explanation on that one.

I've been following recruiting fairly seriously for about 17 years. Over that time, I can't count the number of times I've heard of a prospect, and then gone and seen them live (or on TV) and they just didn't make many plays. I've seen a ton of specimens that look huge, can run like a deer, but come game time they're quiet other than 2 or 3 amazing plays. Some of those guys pan out, some don't. What I love is hearing about a kid and then watching a game and seeing him MAKE FOOTBALL PLAYS consistently throughout the game. When I watched Miramar earlier this year on TV, Grace was that guy. He was in on or around the play almost every down. I feel a lot more comfortable taking kids like that who are natural football players. You can tell when kids have a knack for making plays... when you combine that with good physical specs, you get a prospect that gets the Swag gold seal of approval.

Love this guy's recognition skills. He shows a lot of Lavonte David traits.

I was always a fan of Grace when I first saw his junior highlights....he just has that 'look'. Same look Spence had when he was coming out. Best part about Grace is that he has a frame to get really big. Broad shoulders/chest and long arms.

He's legit. He reads and reacts perfectly for a system that the coaches want to run. He looks soo comfortable in space. I get the feeling this kid is a silent cause if makes no sense to not go hard after this young man.

this is EXACTLY who i am...and always been even in my high school days when we would scout the teams we were about to play.

Examples:
I played my hs ball in Hollywood..Chaminade was sort of like our little bro(think fiu) and played their games at our stadium. i knew all the guys on the team grew up/boys with Jon Beason...then heard Glen Cook had a um offer....anyone who watched a chaminade game at the time knew that Beason on off and defense was just someone that jumped off..and u wouldnt even knew cook was on the field most of the time.

* You heard about the Davin Josephs..and then went to see Hallandale play and see a big guy just mauling people.

Those werejust football players...who did their thing on the field and made plays...not camp/workout warriors. Think we got away from it a little bit and get caught up in the camp/prototype size thing.

Jermaine Grace to me is a sure fire prospect. When u see Miramar play you see this kid constantly and that was even last year. Kid gained some weight since last year so he is showing their is growth potential. He is a shoe in imo....

I said it.

I do think Grace is a baller, but I see a LB tweener that would have a bigger impact at SS. Love his speed, but cant help but see another Ramon Buchanan or Tyrone Cornelius....LBs that should gave played SS.

I see Debo as a MIKE or FB/H back type blocking, catching passes, and occasionally getting carries. While Debo is considered undersized, I see him as a similar player like Marecic (sp) from Stanford a couple years ago and even DJ Williams getting reps on both sides of the ball.

Just an opinion, but I want both in this class.

Great comparison. The traits I see that are identical are footwork/agility, quickness, block shedding and play recognition. Grace is obviously a much better prospect at this stage of his career because he's bigger and more college-ready. What David does well that Grace needs to improve is hitting through tackles instead of making wrap tackles. What Grace has over David is slightly better size/frame, a better vertical and more coverage upside.

I think a lot of fans are getting caught up in the prototype of what they expect in a LB: huge, hard hitter, violent, etc. You also need guys who are smart, can cover, and evade/shed blocks. Grace is elite in space so he brings a lot of stuff to the table that we don't already have, especially with Witt's career being over. I can see him being a 4-year starter after taking a redshirt year to bulk up and lose the freelancing high school style of play.

And, just cuz statistics are fun (and I've been busting my *** to do them, while tweeting and announcing every game), here are Grace's season stats so far:

69 tackles (42 solo, 27 assisted), 15 tackles for loss, 4 passes broken up, 1 forced fumble, 1 interception (18 yard return), numerous crackbacks and devastating blocks on special teams
Only played in 7 games (sat out West Broward game per Coach's decision).
Averaged 10.7 tackles per game last season (150 tackles in 14 games), and is close to that same production, averaging 9.85 tackles per game to this point of his senior season.
