I remember when he committed to FSU.
Think I might have been on TOS at the time.
People were acting like we lost the best linebacker to ever play the game. The meltdown was unreal.
He was a total bust, considering he was a five star and all the hype surrounding him.
Seemed like most of the highly rated kids from South Florida that ended up at FSU ended up being Jags or busts, with the exception of Dalvin Cook.
Dalvin Cook, Marvin Jones, Samari Rolle, Devonta Freeman, Kelvin Benjamin, Derrick Gibson, Corey Simon, Rashad Greene, Lamarcus Joyner, Asante Samuel, etc. They've nailed some big time players out of the tri county area over the years.

There's just something about Ohio State that is keeping me locked in with them. I can go anywhere and chase money but that's not how my family raised me. They want me to go somewhere and earn it.

I gotta tell you, and I've felt this way ever since I heard Hartline spewing this, I find the Ohio State line of, "You don't need money, we're special and getting you into the NFL is the REAL value", to be so disgusting and sleezy.

You're an injury away from losing everything and I always think of Ahmmon Richards with these types of pitches. These kids earned this money now and they deserve it. Telling them that YOU want their services now for your own benefit but THEY need to wait juussstt a little longer to cash in. That they need to earn it first. And using a promise, that you cannot control, to do that. It's a continuation of the exploitation of young men that existed before NIL. And reading the articles about how Ohio State boosters view giving these kids money (with all the undertones that carries) makes it even more sleezy and disgusting to me.

"My family is not just about the money because I know that's just one thing," Jeremiah Smith told 247Sports. "I know with NIL, we're going to get that. Everybody is throwing all types of money at us right now. There's just something about Ohio State that is keeping me locked in with them. I can go anywhere and chase money but that's not how my family raised me. They want me to go somewhere and earn it. Miami is throwing all types of money at me. Florida. Just a lot of schools. Ohio State, there's just something about them. I just wanna go there."

JJ's father:

"I was born and raised here, and I know the ins and outs of Miami, but I always tell my son, the world is bigger than Miami," Chris Smith said. "I always told him to go down the road less traveled. Basically, I love my hometown and I wouldn't mind him playing here but I see the bigger picture. Ohio State is the school that's producing. They're not talking about it, they're actually doing it. They're actually producing NFL-ready wide receivers. The proof is in the pudding."
These quotes are from October. Think you should edit the original post and include that information.

There are maybe only a couple on that list that I would care for. One of which dropped a game winning TD against us in 09.

Btw like others have said, this is nothing like in the past. The past when we were getting shunned, we were get played by other recruits coming down the stretch and in desperation was trying to get that one big name. With zero momentum on the trail and worrying about our own players flipping. Those kids read the tea leaves and went elsewhere. Now these recruits can say oh, they have these players already there, plus these commits so its not gonna be just be trying to save the world.

Not me saying he coming. Just saying the calculations are different for recruits. Thats why they will drop UGA, Michigan and Ohio to join us now.

And we'll never get back til we get guys like him. Haven't seen stats but miami probably had better WR stats than osu sans Harrison Jr
Get your point but one player does not make a team. OSU hasn’t won **** getting those guys the last how many years.

Over the years they have gotten their fare share, for sure.
I was referring more to Mathew Thomas era, around the 2010s when I began following recruiting. I.e Lane, Thomas, (5 star RB can’t remember his name), some DL as well that I can’t remember. etc.

WOOOOWWWWW NASTY WORK by 247. Went back and got access to the WHOLE ARTICLE.

This is what they write in paragraph 1:

Still, Florida State, Miami and Florida have continued to push and pull for Smith's attention — and, yes, it’s possible he could make a jaw-dropping flip from Ohio State to stay in his home state.

"I won't know until Signing Day," his father, Chris Smith, told 247Sports last week. "I just told him to make the right choice, not because of money, but because of what's going to make him happy. Don't be led by money."

Jeremiah Smith doesn't talk often about his recruitment. In fact, the process hasn't been as busy lately, even if the nation's top prospect has been willing to listen to potential suitors. "When you look at the internet, things look bigger than it really is," Chris Smith said.

Not much has changed since Jeremiah Smith spoke to 247Sports in late October about his recruitment and what he was considering in the final two months of the process. He professed his admiration for Ohio State and was particularly fond of receivers coach Brian Hartline, but he didn't eliminate the possibility of a late flip to another school.

So these clowns the DAY before signing day publish an article with quotes TWO MONTHS OLD??????

You are hating hard if you would only take a couple of those guys.

Jones won the Butkus, Freeman was an all pro, Cook made 4 pro bowls, Simon was a pro bowler, Joyner was an all american and still playing in the nfl, Samuel is still in the nfl, Benjamin, Greene, and Gibson were at the least all conference and all NFL players.

I'm having a hard time understanding what's wrong with any of these guys considering Miami's record the last 20 years or so.

I mean they made it clear in the article the quotes were from October. The kid doesn’t really talk to the media aside from after high school games. They knew the best time to maximize clicks was to release the story around signing day. It’s not dirty. People just gotta read the entire story and not take quotes as gospel without context.

Dude you are talking about guys from like 25 years ago. The more recent ones have not been all that great outside of Cook and Freeman. Greene wasn't any better than hurns.

Thanks for the FSU propaganda

Now please stop

I just read the entire article. I had initially only gotten the snippets I previously posted.

However,

the fact they decide to publish that now and give it that pro OSU spin is insane. These services know what they are doing.

But it's probably the smartest business decision as it stands today. Nobody is saying he's brave by going to Taint. He doesn't want a medal. He wants to be a multi-millionaire and really good football player. Taint has a history, with the staff in place that's currently there, of MANY kids going there in his same position and becoming professional football players and multi-millionaires. Miami does not. The only real pull here is we are the home team and his boys are coming. Other than that, from a business perspective, Miami completely pales in comparison.

Either way, 24 hours to go. We all know the pros and cons of any decision being made. We'll see which one he decides to go with.
That's fine, and honestly probably the right decision. But don't make it sound like you're sending your son to Vietnam

Regardless, I don't believe anything anybody is saying in public articles right now

EDIT: Seeing now that those quotes from Smith's family are old. 247 is wild

Let’s keep things under the radar and away from the social media dorks. If we land JS let it come from nowhere
