Just want to get your guys thoughts: How many of you seem him making a serious contribution here and having a big turnaround from last year?

Personally, what he said in his previous interviews about how he was scared about his knee last year is believable. I'm expecting him to help us this year, I'm not talking about starting, but coming in and helping the D.

He was a true freshman last year coming off a knee injury?

What did you expect?

I think we will just start to be able to evaluate him as a prospect this season.

I think he will be a contributor in some form. Hard to tell, it's unclear if he will be moving inside or not. If he moves inside he has a decent shot of getting into the DT rotation. I actually think he has less of a chance to get into the DE rotation.

My wet dream is for Hamilton to replace Chick, and have Chick take Shayon's spot.

Was he suppose to be a stud as a true fresh? Good lord people. Give these kids time.

Holy **** this stuff kills me.

Its always tough when you feel the need to post something less than flattering about a current player, but...

Ive never really been that high on JH. I saw him 3X in high school and said this prior to his arrival at UM. Im hopeful that he can develop into a solid D-end but my gut tells me that his best chance to contribute is for him to bulk up and become a D tackle.

The biggest wild card I see w/r/t Hamilton is the development of Dwayne Holliett. If he can add the bulk needed to be a decent sized D-end and keep his burst, I think he will pass Jelani Hamilton.

I think this year he will make a pretty good contribution as a backup and is a starter next year.

How can people judge him based on last year?

1. He was injured or coming of an injury,

2. Even if he was 100% healthy, he was a true freshman playing DL, and

3. Our DL overall wasn't helping or creating mismatches on their own. The opposite OL had some easy situations in front of them to handle.

Is that what you think, or what Bicho thinks?

I never expected him to be a serious contributor last year, however I was hoping for some pass rush from him like a couple sacks would have helped. As far as the knee injury is concerned, he tore his ACL in the beginning of his senior year of HS IIRC, and that's not something that you just start sprinting full speed right out of.

I don't see him as a great pass rush guy anyway. I think he will help but I don't expect 10 sacks from him.

I think he is going to be a better version of what Shayon Green offers from the DE spot in terms of being a solid run stopper.... but i do think he can develop into an above average pass rushing threat as well.... i dont want him at DT b/c i think he can better use his length around the edge.

I like him i think he can make a name for himself before he leaves..... Jelani Hamilton as a Junior and Senior is going to be a problem (if he avoids serious injury).

Don't know if he has the base to be a DT. I think he can become a solid DE for us...like Tito said, missing your senior year of high school with a knee injury and then having to play right away in college is not easy and should NEVER be asked of someone. The overreaction on him has been truly remarkable.

I think he will contribute and end up having a very solid career here. The thing to remember about Jelani is that explosiveness was never a strong point of his as a prospect anyway. His strength was his size, length, and his high football IQ. He knew how to play the position, understood how to use his hands in deflecting passes and such. He has good athleticism for his size but its not great. You couple that with the fact he suffered the knee injury and that he was a freshman just not yet strong enough for Div 1 ball, you get what we got from him. As others have stated, he can end up being the perfect stack end for us in our 2 gap system. A strong smart kid with the length to do everything our defense needs.

i have never been big on him saw him once in high school and he was injured. i guess in my head i always feel like he will be injury prone. def has talent though

Golden has praised him about his work on the field during the spring and about his weight room performance this offseason. We need him to step up.

Just gotta start playing and once he makes some plays and realizes his knee is good to go I think he will contribute very well to the D-Line... its all about confidence after sustaining an ACL tear... **** look no further than to D-Rose for the Bulls.

I thought we should have RS'd him last year.

Outside that, unless you are a freak, contributing on the DL early in your career is not easy. Physically the guys you are going against are grown men. That's why I hate when people rag on Chick's production. He has played nearly every single snap the last 2 years when his body wasn't ready yet. Hard to be explosive when you are run down.

All that said I expect Hamilton to get some reps, contribute this year. Hopefully he grows into a force his Jr and Sr year.
