CORAL GABLES, Fla. - 2023 Orlando Jones five-star EDGE
Malik Bryant is no stranger to Miami. The junior has spent some time at the school over the summer, and again in the fall when he came down to Dade County for a Miami home game.
But this was the first time he’s been at the school since Mario Cristobal took over and the visit on Saturday gave the Central Florida native plenty to think about.
“It was a great experience getting back down to The Crib and being around the right people. I really enjoyed myself today,” Bryant told InsideTheU on his way out of the football facility.
One thing that stood out to the 6-foot-2, 235-pounder and his family was how welcoming Cristobal and his staff were.
“He definitely made me and my family feel at home. He welcomed us with open arms. Just doing what Coach Cristobal do. He’s just being himself and that’s what me and my family really enjoyed about him,” Bryant said.
Bryant, the nation’s No. 21 overall player according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, heard Miami’s message about the program being on the rise again and he was certainly receptive to it.
“They say they’re building The U back up. I’m excited to see what they have in store. I definitely think they’re on the uprise,” Bryant said.
Cristobal’s main message to Bryant was to stay patient with the process.
“Don’t get complacent, enjoy the process, take my time with everything because everyone is at me. He said just look at The U and consider The U, which I already have been doing,” Bryant said.
Next up for Bryant, who spent the last two seasons at Bradenton IMG Academy, is getting his first look at Alabama next weekend.
“They’re Alabama. Great program. I just haven’t been there yet, so I’m excited to see what they have to offer,” Bryant said.
