James Coley.....

He is really impressing me more and more and more

I listened to his interview today...I can see why kids want to play for him he is very upbeat energetic

and he just gets it...May be the biggest recruit of 2013 we got

He will impress me when I see the offense and we're succeeding. I don't care/need my coordinators tweeting.

Part of his duties as a recruiter. He's using social media.

That's great and all but I don't care if my OC can recruit. I want a guy who knows how to maximize our talent and put points on the board. If he brings in a player or 2, great.

I don't think it is important if your coordinators are good recruiters, prefer that they are football gurus.

i agree. while his recruiting skills are great, it's more of an ancillary bonus. the key for an OC is calling the right plays and maximizing our talent. Hopefully, he's up to the task.

Well, he has a while before he has to call any plays and he can't work with the players 24/7 as they do have to attend some classes and,you know, sleep, so why not recruit?
Tough to win the Derby when you only have plow horses.

We have absolutely nothing to gauge him on as an OC. He could be Chip Kelly. He could be Patrick Nix. Won't know until September. For now, I like that he's hyping the program on social media and actively recruiting hard for Miami. He's selling the **** out of being a Miami guy at Miami to recruits, so for now, he's done all he can.

Fair point but at the same time, we need as much South Florida recruiting muscle as we can find and he is one of the strongest in the game. No matter what position he coaches we need guys like him on the staff because its getting tougher every year.

That is fine. No one is questioning his recruiting abilities.

That is fine and I am sure he can multi-task and maximize his time. I just want to see the product.

Recruiting has become just as important as calling plays

I think you are combining issues. Sure there just as important. Recruiting is half the battle for any program. There is then development and coaching for the other half.

It is great if you have an OC that can do both, but I don't think that is necessary. I would prefer a total OC nerd who could hardly recruit but maximizes the points scored as opposed to a good recruiter/good coach who can't put up as many points. Not every coach on your team needs to be a stud recruiter, some will have to be beasts in the X's and O's department.

so you want Norm Chow...............how is he doing?

can't wait for the eventual twitter water between Coley and the clown who is here to "own 305" and said FSU sells out every game.

You are stupid and that is the only appropriate response.

Any sensible Hurricane fan agrees with you here. Time will tell. We certainly have the horses.

It's a dangerous game Golden is playing by employing a recruiter as his OC. Maybe the guy ends up being a stud OC, but he really has no track record of doing so. You can only have so many recruiters on your coaching staff before player development takes a hit. The jury is out on this staff in every aspect heading into 2013.

A promising sign is that some of his staff from his first year here has gone on to bigger opportunities. So he has a decent track record in hires so far.
