I think this is similar to free agency in the NFL, existing players on a team are not going to hold it against a perspective player for getting as much money as he can to sign with their team, but they may get upset with a player who is on the team and holds out (I say 'may' as I am sure there are cases where they agree and ones where they don't).There's a big difference between TVD using Bama as leverage and Cam using the draft as leverage. That difference is that TVD was an established member of the team and that locker room where Cam was trying to negotiate to become part of the team. I understand and appreciate the crucial importance of having a unified locker room but I don't think that Cam crossed a line that would put him at odds with the team. First off the players know what the game is and they won't begrudge a highly sought after, experienced and very productive player like Cam. There's a difference between playing the game by the rules in order to get a better payday and being a primadonna who is a distraction and puts himself above the team.
I'll give an example. Let's say that Jeremiah Smith had decided to stay in Miami after UM topped Taints last offer. Would our players treat him differently? No I don't think so. Plus with more and more elite HS recruits on the receiving end of these huge NIL deals it's becoming commonplace.
In fact, sometime other players will give a player crap for signing too low as it impacts the market, although I doubt that is really a factor in college (at least not yet).
