Jackson flips to Miami

Surprised about this move.

1. Why not wait and actually watch the young man play a football game before offering.
2. If there is a position on the team that our coaches need to be perfect in their evaluations is the DL. It's the weakest area of the football team and we need players that can contribute right away, not three years from now. That can be reserved for OL...

College is still about teaching and learning, not about being well versed in all areas of the game when u enter it like the NFL. The coaches felt he performed well at the camp and that he has all the physical and mental tools to be molded/taught/developed into a player. This kind of stuff happens more often than ppl think. If ur a supreme athlete, u can catch on to almost any sport quickly. It's not like he's never heard of football before, he'll be alright by the time he is ready to contribute for us.

Reminds me of when they picked up Gabe Terry. Just too good of an athlete to pass up and they had the extra benefit of seeing him camp. The coaches have a pretty good record with under-the-radar athletes, so I'm not going to **** and moan.

I like the Al Golden mentality. It works most of the time. Get the kids nobody wants to commit to your school, that also just happen to be best friends with the the 4 and 5 star kids everybody wants and the 4 and 5 star kids will follow them to The U. Although I'm not too thrilled about the last 4 "Under the Radar" kids we got, I think this kid will be a 4 star by the end of the season and Al Golden will look like a genius.

Disagree about the friends following each other nonsense. We laugh at fsu for pulling that ****. Now that we may be pulling this maneuver, it's suddenly smart. And it is the exception - not the rule - regarding friends actually committing to the same school. Bottom line, if the kid does not warrant an offer on his own merits, we should look elsewhere. Hopefully, this kid actually is worthy, bc def line is not a place we can absorb additional dead weight.

Obviously it's still very early but Golden has nailed a few evaluations already with more to come it seems. I'm not going to sit here and cover my eyes and say trust the guy 100% but the staff has been earning some patience in that department IMO.

How about he ends up a TE and all this is pointless?

But seriously most BCS teams would kill to have our depth chart next year at DE, as far as young talent goes. What's the obsession with instant impact? These guys don't play this year. Not that it isn't needed but are here really a line of guys wanting to come to Miami you would take over McCord, Hamilton, AQM, Hoilett right now?

How many sacks did we have last year?

And how many sacks is a 2014 kid going to have this year, genius?

YOur an idiot ...we don't have the depth chart to take projects that have not played since 8th grade but I forgot you know it all
and that's why we are looking for some Juco help I guess

This is exactly whats wrong with our fans. No faith in anything. Talk **** about a stellar ATHLETE, because you apparently know more than the coaches that are paid to do this trade. Of course we are looking for some talent to come step in and play day 1, who the **** isn't? If the staff pulled the trigger on this kid this quickly, then they obviously see something that stands out in the crowd. 6'5" 220lb kid that can come off the edge AND jump out of the gym? Sign me up.

You're probably the same guy that burrows himself in his room to watch the games, and complains about the crowd. Get your head out of your *** dude.

THIS SITE IS WORSE THEN THE FACKING FREE BOARD...I don't watch the freaking game and complain about the crowd in fact I spend my money to fly to freaking game once a year which cost more then freaking season tickets

I am not the only person that questions taking this kid....IF we had a stacked d-line I wouldn't mind but our pass rush has not exactly been stellar the last 3 years...

LOL you guys are soo called experts and know just as much as I do but right go ahead ROCK IT OUT JERKS

-Bc if you wait, he ends up committing to Louisville or Arky, and then you have to waste time putting resources into a kid who you could have had just by offering.
- no HS DL can or should play immediately. If you want an immediate impact player, get a transfer or a JUCO (hmm waddya know we just got a 5th year senior DE from Wisky)

Didn't he already committ to Arkansas?

Arkansas rejected his commitment

I guess my point was, now we're at a point that we can't wait to offer a kid but Arkansas can?

For the record, I really don't have much of an opinion on taking this kid. As I've stated earlier, so many kids from south florida end up being **** good CFB players that I don't have much of a problem with Golden taking under the radar kids that are local. UM fans are going to have to be patient, though.

This is exactly the type of kid our DEs aren't. Speed, athleticism, height. Give this kid a red shirt to gain weight and study the game and he could be a beast!

You do not wait till the season if you see he is going to blow up. Golden is no dummy. he knows we will probably get scholly losses from the ncaa. hes not wasting them. he must see something very special in this kid. ill trust golden on this one.

Risk Reward, if he sucks we say thanks but no thanks.

What we have is an athlete and that is it. No more, no less.

If he was the only DE we signed I would be troubled.

I have tremendous faith in Golden's scouting. Other than some reaches in 2011 that were necessitated by the fact that Randy had NO official visits lined up, he has done pretty well. And even some of them, like Scott, Johnson, and Pierre, have been good players. 2012 is full of guys I think are gonna be great Canes, 2013 is a small but packs a lot of power at the top of it, and 2014 these guys haven't even played their senior years yet!

Golden has had the benefit of this now being his 4th recruiting class. He's no rookie on the SFLa scene anymore and he has had the benefit of several camps to have a look through who is really interested and who isn't, in addition to who has what kind of ability. I don't have a ton of issues taking a 6-5 freakshow local athlete (if thats what he is, haven't seen any footage, waiting for his Senior year) from a pipeline school, but thats just me.

I trust in Al, alot of his under the radar guys have been good finds, and a lot of his early offers have been guys that blow up. I think he is pretty in synch with what he wants and how his needs can be met by whats available to him locally. But thats just me

This is probably the most reasonable statement there is nothing we can do...but see what happens with these kids senior years...I would have rather just waited until
his first 2-3 games of high school football

I have been very impressed with Golden's evals. I'm responding to the post that this is a good pick-up bc of the alleged impact on Chad Thomas. I hope that is not the reason we have offered Jackson.

Ah, sorry about that. Little knee-jerk reaction there I suppose. Not really quoting your post to call it out or anything, just continuing the discussion.

I know there are times when offering B to get A comes in to play but Golden seems to try to avoid that.

read in the Miami Herald that Ice said...Jackson is faster than Chad Thomas and has him in "movements"...Meaning he's more fluid.

Sign Him up...

Because Chad Thomas is a **** beast...if the kid is even close to that talent and we land Thomas to go with him...that would be a great dend duo.
Like i stated before bring in both of those guys with a stack end that weighs about 260-270 and we're good to go.
