So what happens if this guy has a terrible fall? We're stuck. This just seems off to me.

Exactly, now this works possibly in 2 ways. 1. He's a freak athletically so they think if they mold him that he can be a monster after a redshirt year (look at the draft with these great athletes as a 3-4 rusher). 2. It helps us get Chad Thomas who may get even more of a UM push from Jackson if they're working together that much

The staff may be adjusting their recruiting techniques based on a few cycles of dealing with some unique challenges. They could be filling spots early to discourage local hyped recruits from viewing The U as a potential fallback, as in "take the offer while it lasts". At the least it seems clear that in the run-up to the next NSD the staff wants a very firm idea of who about 75% of their class will be made up of. No more surprises that significantly change the intermediate-term outlook of the roster.

I dont think they would do that to this kid or any kid who they believed in enough to take his commitment this early

You could be on to something. Only thing I can really say is these guys have been very consistent with the types of athletes they recruit. Only time will be able to tell the story though.

Other people have echoed this but I just don't think we are in a position to be taking on projects on the Defensive Line. You want to offer some 6'5 WR who is a converted basketball player? Fine, we have depth there and a miss wouldn't hurt. We need immediate help on the D-Line.

Where are all these immediate impact guys lining up at? List for me all the immediate impact guys that want in.

If the 35+ inch vert at this kid's size is legit, then you have a unique athlete that you get to mold in to a pass rusher. AKA what every football coach has wet dreams about.

Maybe they do get 2 or 3 guys like that but let's also be real that the recruits this year won't have a huge role on the line next year. If you redshirt him and then he blows up on ability and sick athleticisim we will be hyped that we got a steal. Also, Eddie Johnson was a steal and others who many schools slept on so yeah, sometimes they take risks but also you got to trust this staff who has done a very good job that they know what they're doing

From a distance it appears they are making a statement about their faith in the talent and potential of kids from south Florida...channeling their inner Luther Campbell.

In a perfect world I agree 100%.

Last year we all agreed instant impact at DT was crucial and all we ended up with is a unknown kid who probably won't even suit up for us.

Beggers can't be choosers sometimes.

We also just signed(or hope to sign I should say) a kid, while undersized, that had 18 sacks in Dade County as a Junior DE.

Imagine if he had studs that were ahead of him so he could've waited and gotten better just by working with them. Jackson has that chance with Chad Thomas now and he can redshirt when he comes here

I like the Al Golden mentality. It works most of the time. Get the kids nobody wants to commit to your school, that also just happen to be best friends with the the 4 and 5 star kids everybody wants and the 4 and 5 star kids will follow them to The U. Although I'm not too thrilled about the last 4 "Under the Radar" kids we got, I think this kid will be a 4 star by the end of the season and Al Golden will look like a genius.
