It’s been a wild few months for Booker T. Washington’s Demetrius Jackson (6’5”, 215). Jackson was a full-time basketball player at Booker T. before participating in Spring football for the Tornadoes and landing multiple division-1 offers. Eight days ago, Jackson committed to Arkansas, but today he is a Miami Hurricane.

“Things happen, so you’ve got to be prepared. I’m just excited and seizing the moment right now, but I’m humbly excited at the same time,” said Jackson.

Jackson told me a few weeks ago that Miami had contacted him, but he wasn’t sure how sincere their interest was. After a discussion yesterday, he had his offer.

“Micheal Barrow and Coach Franklin called me yesterday and told me I had an offer. They were just talking to me saying how they loved me after and after watching my spring film they think I can make a big impact.”

Why did he flip from Arkansas to Miami so quickly?

“It’s about me feeling more comfortable and it’s a bigger program.”

Jackson is hoping that his new commitment to Miami will help lure his teammates Chad Thomas and Nigel Bethel to Miami with him.

“I’m working harder everyday and staying late with Chad (Thomas) working. He’s always there and that rubs off on me so maybe me being a UM commit can rub off on them.”

Miami’s history with players in the pros as well as academics were big factors in his decision.

“The players that they’ve produced and they have the most players in the NFL with degrees.”

Jackson’s family was pleased with his switch.

“My mom and family is behind my 100% no matter what I do and it’s a great place since it’s close to home and I feel comfortable.”

Jackson also has a message to ‘Canes fans.

“I’m looking forward to the season watching great Hurricane football and I’m going to continue to improve to get better and look for ways that I can make the program better myself.”

**Jackson said he will play ”rusher and outside linebacker” at Miami.

Kid sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders. Will need to pack on some serious weight, IMO, in order to get up to legit D-1 DE levels but thankfully we are beginning to acquire the depth necessary to redshirt him and allow him to develop at a reasonable pace.

Randy tried to sneak him outta here. Al said, Not so fast my friend! I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the quote when he said, "UM is a bigger program". THANK YOU, SON! Finally someone with some God **** sense! Since when was Louisville FOOTBALL considered big time football? We need to smack these cats back to reality!

I think dieter tweeted Arkansas wouldn't take his commitment. Something like that. Any idea why?

Didn't Jason Pierre Paul not play football until very late in high school career too and he turned out alright. I don't have a problem taking a physical freak that could also build up some good will at a pipeline school.

This excerpt from Kurtenbach's Sun Sentinel article makes it seem like Arkansas wanted him to visit before they would accept his commitment:

A close family friend of Arkansas signee and former Booker T. Washington offensive lineman Denver Kirkland, Jackson verbally committed to the Razorbacks on June 20, but the Arkansas coaching staff did not accept his commitment, as he had not visited Fayetteville.
That's when Miami stepped in, courting the rookie and landing his verbal commitment.

"I grew up a Cane," Jackson said in a text message Friday. "UM produces great defensive ends and it's a great program overall."

I think we're trying too hard to be the smartest guys in the room with some of our recent commits.

That's why the staff is getting paid to make those decisions. I trust that they are confident in their developmental skills with kids that have yet to peak their potential. Using the same method that worked at Temple. Should produce far greater results at the U. I'm excited.

They weren't the smartest. They offered after the staff who won the Big 10 three straight years and after the staff that won the Big East and crushed Florida in the Sugar Bowl.

Unless this guy is an absolute monster, give me Rohan Blackwood instead! Similar type of prospect, but he has proven he can do it on the field
