It’s been a wild few months for Booker T. Washington’s Demetrius Jackson (6’5”, 215). Jackson was a full-time basketball player at Booker T. before participating in Spring football for the Tornadoes and landing multiple division-1 offers. Eight days ago, Jackson committed to Arkansas, but today he is a Miami Hurricane.
“Things happen, so you’ve got to be prepared. I’m just excited and seizing the moment right now, but I’m humbly excited at the same time,” said Jackson.
Jackson told me a few weeks ago that Miami had contacted him, but he wasn’t sure how sincere their interest was. After a discussion yesterday, he had his offer.
“Micheal Barrow and Coach Franklin called me yesterday and told me I had an offer. They were just talking to me saying how they loved me after and after watching my spring film they think I can make a big impact.”
Why did he flip from Arkansas to Miami so quickly?
“It’s about me feeling more comfortable and it’s a bigger program.”
Jackson is hoping that his new commitment to Miami will help lure his teammates Chad Thomas and Nigel Bethel to Miami with him.
“I’m working harder everyday and staying late with Chad (Thomas) working. He’s always there and that rubs off on me so maybe me being a UM commit can rub off on them.”
Miami’s history with players in the pros as well as academics were big factors in his decision.
“The players that they’ve produced and they have the most players in the NFL with degrees.”
Jackson’s family was pleased with his switch.
“My mom and family is behind my 100% no matter what I do and it’s a great place since it’s close to home and I feel comfortable.”
Jackson also has a message to ‘Canes fans.
“I’m looking forward to the season watching great Hurricane football and I’m going to continue to improve to get better and look for ways that I can make the program better myself.”
**Jackson said he will play ”rusher and outside linebacker” at Miami.
