I agree with your last sentence. The “lay of the land” makes it meaningless. In CFB, no matter who you lose to, unless it’s the $EC, your playoff hopes are virtually done.
in college basketball all you have to do is be one of the best 64 teams to have a shot.
Therefore, the magnitude of a loss is not equivalent.
All I'm saying is in sports one team can be ranked #1 and be a 25 point favorite but if they just going through the motions and there is no intensity are we to blame the coach or the players? Is it Coach K fault they lost to and unranked team or the players? Coach K didn't have them prepared or were the players sleep walking?
