It's looking like the staff will need to hit the portal again this year to fill the 26-27 class.

We owned the portal last year and then went 6-6.

there is a reason these guys go in the portal. but the moron brigade at it up bc manny is “a savage” and “its his dream job!”

This years Heisman winner and last years was in the "portal"

Miami utilized the portal because they wanted to fill their initial counters and improve team talent. Teams don’t dream of using the portal heavily.

Asa Martin and Tommy Kennedy were huge whiffs (also Richt guys) who were actually worse than taking no one if I understand the IC rules.

Bolden looked good.
Hill was a one year rental who rotated in a lot.
Osborn was an awesome 1 year rental.
Phillips remains to be seen.
Martell was MIA all season basically.
Nnoruka wasn’t horrid I guess and was a 1 year rental.

Manny hyped the portal finds a lot but the results weren’t that amazing in actuality. The 1 year rentals are something good winning teams can afford to do, not programs going 6-6 with no depth at key spots. Miami brought in a lot of short term players and whiffs when they “won” the transfer portal.

Taking a big portal group again is likely to be more of the same unfortunately.

So the portal players are the problem? Sht, why didn't anyone just say that? F the protal this year, 12 wins here we come!

We 1,000% need to add a Grad Transfer OL, LB, WR, CB & QB.

I would also take kids that might have to sit a year too, but if they're talented & wanna come here, gotta take'em.

The next staff is going to need to have some good players on the roster for when these Goofballs get fired come December of next year.
As clueless as UM administration is, even I don't think they'd tolerate another season like this one without canning Manolo & the gang.

Honestly, if we really want to look for an edge in recruiting, it’s probably via the portal. We got Hill, Osborn, and Bolden to be significant contributors and still have Tate and Phillips of which will need to be determined how much they contribute moving forward.

We need some other way because cycle after cycle we are missing out on recruits. Call it what you want, bags or whatever. Portal kids, especially grad transfers don’t care about that. They want to get to the league and get real money. Embracing the portal may not be the worst thing and it may be our best chance when the HS kids get lured by incentives.

I initially had this view of the portal too. The results of the portal from the first big dive into it are hardly something this program can afford to follow each season. If the hit rate on the portal was 75% or higher and the players were multi year players it would be a different story.

1 Year rentals (Osborn, Nnoruka, Hill, Kennedy) burn up limited initial counters (25 a year). Guys who leave (Martin) burns up initial counters. Guys who take up a roster spot with no impact (Martell) burn up initial counters. Miami is 6 players short next season because they took flyers on the portal and couldn't find young players with multiple years of impact to come to Miami. They really aren't short 6 players because Manny wasn't going to salvage that class with recruits but the point still stands. The roster composition is missing guys.

It is horribly unsustainable to do this for many years in a row. For a team at 70-75 scholarship players today if they continue to take short term portal players they will consistently be short handed and not building long term depth. If Miami were doing this and signing raw athletic freaks who were projects it might work but what is actually happening is Miami is whiffing on 5-10 targets and then instead of having a plan for Plan C or D recruits they scramble late then are forced to go to the portal.

The issue with initial counters is a problem, I will agree. They need to be more selective IMO and guys like Asa and Nnoruka shouldn’t be considered with the depth we had at those spots. Classes shouldn’t be built with heavy portal usage, but it is an option for supplementing poor recruiting classes. It would be much nicer if we could just recruit better tho.

The Defensive staff doesn't have one good recruiter in the bunch.

Stroud is the only one who's halfway decent, considering the circumstances.
Yeah but at least they are great coaches who you can trust to not give up a lead late in the 4th quarter...... wait. Never mind they suck at coaching too.

Arizona State true freshman QB Joey Yellen is entering the portal. Former 4* out of CA, rated #9 pro-style QB in 2019. Will have 4 years eligibility left. Started one game this year against USC with an injured shoulder and threw for 28/44, 292, 4/2. This kid is light years ahead of Jarren/N'Kosi. Those two have zero poise or pocket awareness.

Good, no need to reach on anything. Go get some talented prospects in the portal if you need to

The portal is not a plan.
We have no idea who will be available.
I don't understand why people think its a fix all.

And people sit here and scratch their asses wondering why our team culture and backbone is broken. We are relying on guys that largely run from adversity or challenge (this does not apply to a guy like Osborne). One or two are fine when you have a strong culture to bring them into, like Justin Fields and OSU. We don’t have that.

Don’t think we were ever going to take 25 in December.

Grad transfers and the portal are a new reality. Need flexibility.

What kills me is all these misses or decommits are coming from the D side of the ball where Manny has been successful and in control for 4 years. So WTF is going on????

He’s not a good recruiter and kids see through that so called “success.” Anytime we play a real offense his defense seems pedestrian at best.
