It doesn't matter if we get Howard or Hamilton, etc...

The thing to focus on is that with a 6-6 record, the Shapiro stuff, negative recruiting, the loss of the bowl PR, the facilities nonsense, etc, etc, we're not only IN IT for some top kids that we have no right to even be sniffing, but we've got some of them on board already. Can you imagine what's going to happen when the handcuffs come off???

Yeah, Howard is local. Local from a school we've had a bad track record with, and he was DEAD SET against staying home. But here we are, in the game, fighting it out. Same goes for some other recruits that we've landed, turned, or got to visit, etc.

My point is that this staff can recruit well with one hand tied behind its back and a broken toe. Are they recruiting national championship classes yet? Maybe. Maybe not. But they are improving the roster a ton, and are certainly getting us back in the direction of top 10 status.

I can't wait to see what these guys can do with no probation chatter after a 10 win season.

We have no right to have this class right now. No right. I am truly amazed. I'd love to land Howard, etc. But that's a micro issue. The greater, more important macro issue, who we are and what this staff can do on the trail, has been answered IMHO.

This staff deserves so much praise. I really can't emphasize it enough. Regardless if we flip anyone this week or not. We've got a real staff, fellas.

I hope we pull another kid or two like all of us. But the more important thing to take note of is that we finally have the engines running... the ship has stopped listing and is pointed in the right direction, finally.

ITS GREAT TO BE.

Let me start off by saying that so far I LOVE GOLDEN and what he has done so far. I think the job he has done recruiting considering what is going on with Shapiro, the record, etc has been amazing and I can only imagine how good this class would have been without the Shapiro thing, but what's going to matter are the results on the field.

Now with that out of the way; whether or not the Shapiro thing ends up being a big or small hit, it's going to be what we can do with the product on the field. Almost every coach does well in his first full recruiting cycle b/c he can sell the 'new era', but the way to keep the recruits coming is to win. So far, I think that is still up in the air. I dont mean that in a bad way, but I dont in a good way either. I am fully aware of the lack of depth and the ****** attitude of many of our players, but I have gotten my hope up so many times before only to have them crushed, that I am still in wait and see mode.

Certainly there are the signs of improvement (we hung in every game this year), but there are also the things to continue to worry (how did we lose to awful BC team at the end of the year). As I mentioned, I think (hope) a lot of that is the players and Al's kids will do better, but I just want to see it before annointing him, I mean remember how excited people were with Randy pulling in that 08 class.

Sorry, not trying to be a downer, just trying to keep my enthusiasm checked.

The Fact that today Bomb can even start a Thread like this amidst all the bull**** that Golden had to endure this year speaks volumes....

Golden is doing his best Nino Brown imitation when it comes to recruiting.... And I love it!!!

I expect Year 3 is when this thing will back to the way it should be...

We lost to BC because most of the upper-classmen checked out mentally after the self-imposed bowl ban and started thinking about the draft.

and that spoke volumes about those upper-classmen IMO. They could have used the BC game as their farewell game but they chose to pout and give the game away.

Yep.. Randy's Guys. That Mentality is hopefully out of here..

To the OP.... I could not agree more. Outstanding job by Golden.

I always look to see which way the program is *trending*, i.e., up, down or stagnant.

No question Golden has UM football trending up in a major way. What he has already done on the recruiting trail confirms that. These win's and losses of 4 star players here at the tail end of the recruiting season, while it would be nice to get them, are speed bumps.

Golden has the car pointed in the right direction and is pressing the gas pedal.

USC, BAMA, Ahia St etc have recruited well while being on probation of having sanctions looming. Not that big of a deal IMO. Golden needs to show he can bring in impact guys and not get outcoached in key points during games. Big year for Golden and staff in 2012.

Name 3 instances please

most of the blunders i saw this year were upper classmen (mainly seniors) making mistakes like they had never been on a field before. I dont think ill ever forget TB3's wonderful PR against fsu in his senior year

Yes, it does matter. I think we have a good, solid, class considering the circumstances. AG is obviously a competent recruiter, although he certainly places a lot of stock in his evaluations. But that's okay. His recruiting next year seems to be top-3 class material. However, I'd be willing to bet that AG and the rest of the coaches themselves would tell you that landing a cornerback such as Howard DOES matter. It's not the end of the world if he doesn't, it doesn't even really reflect that negatively on Golden & crew if he doesn't, but getting a guy who supposedly has the talent to start day 1 at UM, in a position of need, when we are rebuilding certainly matters.

It would absolutely accelerate the talent infusion, but I think the future of Miami Football is in good hands either way. If we get a few key pieces here late, great. If we don't, I am confident we will get them in the future. I'm talking big picture, future of the program.

Al Golden is not going to get out worked. That's for sure. I'm not into moral victories. Golden just pulled a kid from Tampa Plant so Miami's credibility with Robert Weiner is definitely moving in the right direction. Golden is getting kids from Mark Guandolo and Damon Cogdill. He's starting to pull from kids from some of the best programs in the state. Pulling Hamilton would be huge because starting a pipeline with Don Bosco Prep would be in Miami's best interest.

Weiner wasn't anti-Miami, he was anti-Shannon as he felt he played Marve.

Ah, no. Miami had to repair its relationship with Weiner. Weiner's name being dropped with the Shapiro allegations didn't help.

I don't remember the Shapiro stuff. Can you refresh me? My comments were based on Weiner saying exactly that... that he had nothing against UM, that it was a great school, but then going on and on about how he couldn't send a kid to play for RS.
