Is "No QB" an excuse for 2014?

No. If Olsen is what he's supposed to be he should be able to beat out Ryan Williams, barring Ryan going into super sayain mode. We're in a era where any redshirt freshman worth his while is balling. It's on Coley to get him right.
Yeah, I'm not sure why our fan base has already concluded that Williams will be the starter. In this era of college football it's really not that unusual for a redshirt freshman to start, especially one as highly touted as Olsen.

ADd to the fact that Golden said he only reached out to Ryan WIlliams because Petrino at Arkansas wanted him and he figured if Petrino wants him he may be good..Yes he did say that

RS-FR at any position, even QB, have success throughout college football. There's no excuse to be made.

+100. FR and R-FR's play and play well in today's cfb. May not win a championship, but good play outta Olsen, if he wins, should be expected.

Edit: I think Williams wins the job and I'm ok with that. We'll have the tools on offense around him to be good.

RWilliams will have a lot of tools to work with. The OL should be solid. A wall protects his blind side. I think he'll spread the ball around more, particularly to TEs and RBs.

I would like a MIAMI QB have total command of the offense. Run a huddle offense. Keep that defense off the field.

Ryan Williams can have a really good year, but he's going to have a tough time the minute he makes a mistake or two because this fan base hates him already. He doesn't have the rocket arm that they like, so he's going to be on a short leash with the fans and will be the instant scapegoat if Al Tin continues on with this putrescent defense of his.

Our fanbase will be like that with whoever the qb is next year

The issue is not the offense. It will be the defense. Why the **** are we talking about the O??

We are gonna have some serious weapons on offense. I think either qb can have success next year. Unless we improve on defense though it doesn't mean ****.

I think the crux of this specific discussion is based on whether or not coach Coley can adapt to our QB talent. Im of the opinion that our roster is better suited for a pro-styled offense but Steven Morris couldnt run it. So we ended up running a shotgun spread which coach Coley seems to prefer.

i have to wonder is coach coley's desire to be a lower level texas high school offense will supercede his desire to start the best QB who can win at the highest level for UM.

Williams looked fine in the little I saw of him. He doesn't need to be anything special, just throw it to our guys and our guys only. We don't need this deep, blow the lid off your coverage defense. We have explosive guys all over, I think less will be more for us and the shorter we are hitting Coley and Waters, and more Cleve Walford, the better. Let your boys run and keep drives alive for a change.

The feast or famine offense we've had for years going back to whipple and Fisch killed us half the time.

**** it franchise, you made me look that one up.

They handpicked Olsen.

Ugh. Shivers run down my back as I agree with you. Olsen needs to be the one playing. Ryan Williams ain't the answer.

Not even gonna lie, Morris looked a lot better after the ankle injury was behind him. I wish he wouldn't of gotten hurt because i think he would of had a pretty good year.

Some say losing Morris is addition by subtraction, but idk if that's true. One of the few things Morris did well is stretch the defense with the long ball, which seems to be Coach Coley's favorite thing to do. I'm not sure if Williams can do that, so without that element i wonder how are offense is gonna look. The obvious answer should be dink and dunk and march down the field conservatively with PA every now and then, but Coley doesn't seem to be that type of coach. We'll see i guess, i'm concerned for sure.

Another mulligan for 2014?

"But we don't have Morris" BETTER not be the excuse to finish 4th in the Coastal in 2014 and 2015.

This is just Muschump 2.0 style,.

And if that excuse holds up for 2014, then it's automatic for 2015 ("We lost Ryan Williams, Olson is a first year starter.....")

This is why I hate coaches/teams with excuses. It never ends.

This is where we are going to be able to judge player development.
Whether it's Williams, Olsen or Kaaya, whoever starts is going to feel the pressure to be Steve Walsh.
Our offense is going to be dominant. A recovered Duke with Yearby and Gus as rb's. Flowers, Feliciano, McDermott, Isidora/Bunche/Gall/Sonny/Knighton on the line. Walford and Beau at TE and a great stable of wr's.

Defense will be better than this year simply from addition by subtraction.

I need some proof...

I really dont care for williams... I seen him at memphis while staying in Little Rock i know he was a freshman with a mediocre line against mediocre competition but nothing he did while there or here made say this guy has potential he can develop into something... I remember telling a co-worker if he came to the U i could see him as a Clip Board holder/signal caller from sidelines.... I still see him that way but hey i would gladly eat crow n possum if he proves me wrong and brings us back to elite status

Golden won't resort to the "no quarterback" excuse next year.

More "failed to execute," "defense can't get off the field because our offense doesn't convert enough third downs," "players not taking responsibility," "we have to get better," and my all time favorite, "we've been fighting the NCAA."

That thick, red notebook the student assistant carries on the sidelines? That's the EXCUSE BOOK. For post game interviews.
