Is it possible that Al Golden is our version of Ron Zook?

Yes very possible. If the team hasn't improved after 3 years you've got a head coaching problem. I'm not saying to fire him, but everyone's eyes need to open to the fact that he may not be the guy to get us where we want to go.

Have we not improved? FSU, no way we were honestly going to win that game. This game, yes, we made a lot of mistakes and the D did not stop anything on 3rd down. But to say we haven't improved after 3 years is a bit of a stretch.
So the last four games have looked like improvement to you? Did you see what happened to wake today? What is UNCs record? We allowed 500 yards to a 100th ranked offense. Sure we improved ranking wise but in actuality when you watch this team we haven't improved.

Regardless of the last 4 games, or 9 games, we have improved from last year. You are expecting a national championship team in a coaches 3rd year, without national championship caliber players. What exactly do you expect? Wins in every game by 40+ pts? Trust me, I'm extremely frustrated watching some of these games, but to say we haven't improved from last year is garbage.

Its ironic that this question came up last night while watching the game.

I think its a valid question, but I think the answer is, we dont know yet. Is the answer as simple as getting a new defensive coordinator?

Hope things play out exactly like they did with Zook. Bring in recruits; fire the HC; hire a real HC, and win two rings. Sign me up for that right now.

No. To say we HAVE improved from last year is garbage. The only teams our defense stopped this year are literal dumpster fires of programs. We just let the 100th ranked offense put 40 some points on us, with an 80% completion rate. We are the same exact team as last year that benefitted from the easiest schedule we have had in a decade. Seriously, just stop.

Save the player excuses. You just make yourself look dumb and show everyone you have real little clue about what is happening on the field. I challenge you to tell me why every single eligible receiver on the opposing team has 15 yards of cushion around him on every play. Seriously, if you can answer that question, I'll retract my statement about your football acumen. Until then, shut up.

No. Another poster said it but zook recruits very very well. Even at Illinois he brought in serious talent fr that type of school. Muschamp would be more like a zook.
Golden seems to be recruiting pretty **** well this year so not sure if I'm following the distinction

Our recruiting is nothing special, look at Pete's post. 31 are either rhone or busts, and a lot of hem Pete even has a little higher than they should be. Starts at the top, get rid of Golden. He as good o keep us together with the scandal, but now that is over with, lys go get a good coach.

I have been big on Al and will always be thankful for how he stuck with the U through NCAA crap, and how he has represented with class.

ihave been and continue to be impressed with how he recruited under that cloud, and how this class is shaping up.

i gave the benefit of the doubt to him and coach D about talent, including having realistic expectations this year. I still think prior to even the results of the last two games that we were a year or two away.

but what I saw today, and now in retrospect this year even in wins, has made me really question the coaching ability for the first time in a significant way even despite the points above on talent. .

you just can't lose this way. Fine if we lose due to lack of talent, but not because of dumb mistakes not based on talent.
The coaching talent.... Well is it as suspect as the player talent now that the gap in talent is not as bad as it was? The pendulum should be shifting and in some ways it's not.

it just feels today, for the first time for me, that I'm not as sure anymore, despite a likely great recruiting class.

im not sure either way. I'm not a true expert. But I watch a ton of football and this isn't passing the eye test.

is al, as much as I love him, a CEO, a great recruiter, but not the coach we need to return, blinded by loyalties? Maybe just frustrated, but discuss...

is he our zook?

Two of the biggest mistakes made tonight were made by true freshmen on the return game after they had made huge returns. Unfortunately they haven't been here before. Their learning curve will be huge after tonight. I don't expect Burns and Coley to make the same mistake again...ever. O'Donnell, that was a little different. Either way, those turnovers were huge. Nothing the coaches or anyone else (other than the ball carrier) could do about it.

Can't blame O' Donnell for that, it was a bang bang play and dude is like 6'5 going down to the ground for a bouncing snap.

I guess the bright side is that if he is our Zook, then it means that the next guy will get us 2 ships right? Right?

No way. Zook recruited better.

I was going to say, I would kill for Zook over Golden. What kind of post was this OP. a joke.
The circumstances were completely different. Zook inherited an orange bowl team, golden Shannon/Coker mess and NCAA cloud. The point since you can't get it,was is al, like zook, only strong in recruiting relative to situation and gets exposed on game day, in a way that I didn't think before but fear now.

I thought zook was a recruiting wiz with tons of talent.

But the argument has been we don't have enough to any talent??

I'm getting confused with everyone's crap

Golden got a lot going for him other than two or more losses.
1.Shalala and U Bd.of Trustees have to be eternal grateful to Golden and the manner he ran the program
while under NCAA's investigation. The U could have ended up with the"death penalty"and a fate similar to SMU.
2.Golden has shown he can compete against any coach in the nation in recruiting.
3.Blame Shannon for alot of this still because he left a poor group of seniors.

1. We didn't not get the death penalty because Al Golden was our head coach.
2. So did Shannon.
3. Shannon hasn't been here for three years. Meaning Shannon's "seniors" were sophomores when Golden got here. Three ******* years. It's his job to either develop those players into something better, or recruit better players to fill the gaps so Shannon's seniors are on the bench. He hasn't done either.

Some people will never learn.
