Interesting post about speed at WR

I agree to a certain extent.

You need some level of athleticism to be able to run routes and separate from DB’s.

I agree that they don’t need to run a 4.2 to be successful, but a guy who runs a 4.7 and is a “craftsman” will only be open momentarily while the more athletic DB break back to the route.

How many guys on this team can separate religiously?

X; Horton; and Trader. Two of those guys are gone after this year.

You think Horton goes pro? I think he's burning money if he leaves now.

Two?

This roster needs a truly dynamic playmaker (we don't have one right now), but this graph caught my attention. Craftsmanship, quicks, hands and play strength are still most important at WR.
There's only THREE WRs I'd take on that list. Santana, Donte and pre-prison Ruggs.

🤷🏿‍♂️

Short-area twitch is essential.

I think we need to add a WR in the Portal. Trader and Carr have a chance to be very good.

I don’t see why he’d stay.

He’s a 3rd/4th round guy right now.

Physically, he’s not going to improve much more. And if it statistical accolades he’d come back for, that’s also at risk with the change in QB.

I don’t see a reasonable situation that he would come back to school for outside of winning a conference or national title.

Yes, both young guys have a ton of potential, and short area burst, to be big time players at Miami.

The portal will be the only place to get that skill set like you said.

I doubt Miami leans heavily on the incoming class to contribute at WR. Even then, only two of the guys have this prerequisite. The third guy will need a few years (like Horton did) to get gain that skill.

Why would he come back? Because he's come on leaps and bounds in a year under this coaching staff. Why not see if that upwards trajectory continues? He's obviously getting a decent NIL deal now (which will no doubt improve in the offseason) - he's risking that for a shot at the shark tank that is the NFL.

There's a risk with a change at QB, but if anything he benefits from the turnover in playing staff because Restrepo won't be here vampiring all of the targets.

If he's not getting a 3rd rd grade he should come back. If he had blown up to be a top 100 overall projected guy then I couldn't hate on him at all for leaving but he's gonna need a nice NIL raise this January I imagine.
As much as I like the young WRs we got, Horton is so absurdly far and away our WR1 at the moment it would be devastating to lose him

I don’t see him as a 1st round guy. He’s not going to run fast enough at the combine (40, short shuttle, etc.) to go that high.

He’ll be the next in a long line of WR who come into the league cheap and hang around for a decade collecting a huge contract. Might as well start that journey now.

I'd expect Horton to leave unless some badass QB from the portal comes in. Going from Ward to Emory won't excite anyone to pass on the NFL Draft.

It would be ill-advised for Horton to leave.

He has 1 100+ yard game. He doesn’t even have 600 receiving yards through 10 games. He’s had 4 receptions or less in half his games this year.

He’s a very good player, but he’s not going anywhere higher than 4th round if he leaves right now.

Because now you can almost make as much in college as a 3rd/4th round guy?

And if you leave and get cut you could be trying out for CFL teams/selling insurance pretty quickly
