"After all, the Pittsburgh team that so easily ended the Hurricanes’ 10-0 run last year had recruiting classes ranked anywhere from 29th nationally to 65th in the past four cycles. Wisconsin, the team that hammered Miami in the Orange Bowl game, has consistently been ranked as a 30-something recruiting class in recent years."

"It’s more than restocking a roster each February with new talent. It’s refining and reevaluating what you’ve already got."

"Richt was shown the door at Georgia because, in large part, his bosses weren’t convinced they were getting enough in that area. According to the Rivals scouting website, the Bulldogs were outside the top 10 just three times in Richt’s 15 years as the Bulldogs head coach and yet it never added up to a spot in the national title game."

"If Richt gets there with Miami, it won’t take 15 years of trying. For one thing, he would never last as long in Coral Gables as he did in Athens."

"Every competitive environment is different, from national perception to expectations, and it’s never more apparent than on signing day."

"Central Florida, for instance, is coming off a 13-0 season and a bowl win over Auburn, but still the Knights are working hard with new coach Josh Heupel to stay within the top 75 nationally with this recruiting class."

"On the other hand, Southern California, with its glamorous name and winning tradition, is solidly back in the top 10, according to the various recruiting sites. Frequent coaching changes don’t impact that much. Neither does the fact that the Trojans had their last great run, a 12-1 season with a Rose Bowl win, when Pete Carroll was coaching them a decade ago."

Signing Day: UM on recruiting rise as Mark Richt pushes for more

If he doesnt win he wont last long that goes for any coach. He bought time last year with our best season in forever. I just hope whoever is in charge pays attention to recruiting and dont extend anyone like they did AG.

SC kids go to USC no matter what’s going on. They don’t need to see them win 8 championships first. Aren’t front runners

I think it has been pointed out that if the new playoff format was around when Richt was at Georgia all those years he would have had a chance to compete for NC's. So who knows if things may have turned out different? He obviously is not perfect, but he is a lot better than what we have had for the past decade. And the cupboard he left for Smart wasn't too shabby either. I think he is a good evaluator of talent as well, especially on the offensive side. His record of selecting elite backs speaks for itself.

USC doesn’t have to deal with the SEC shenanigans during recruitment.

WHy would the SEC teams go to cali if they can go to florida for the better player, if cali had better player Im sure the sec would go hard over there

i was a butch guy. but apparently richt was unhappy at uga for a while. the ad didnt let him choose his own assistants and play his style of football. the guy can
recruit, he won 10 games with no a lack of depth. i have heard from alum that the guy runs tough practices so im willing to give him a shot. i think uga might just be cursed.lol

Cali is a different vibe, they don’t have those sec handlers around them pushing them to that conference and usc is THE school out west for them even though they havent done anything since the early to mid 2000s. Usc is the most similar program in the country in terms of alot of things only difference is that there are 3 instate powers and we happen to reside in the most unloyal area in the country. Over the last 10 years(mainly before richt) we haven’t been known for winning big, when we do we will get kids like Tyson Campbell and pat surtain on the regular . Even though usc loads up talent year in and year out they still fold regardless but these kids have seen them be successful, they have seen bama be successful, uga has had sustained success since the 2000s. Before this season we haven’t won over 10 games since what 2004? This season was a good start now we need to continue with another great season to start changing the perception of Miami

Stop it. Kids from Cali get recruited by the SEC all the time, they just don’t do it with the same success as they do with the S.FL Snakes

I was high all season and even took the 3 losses with grain of salt, but as yesterday settled in, I got a late start because of work, I admit I was wondering it what Butch would have pulled. The early class was great and Nesta is huge addition but the missed chance to drive a stake in the ground saying this crap stops here was missed entirely. Trying hard is not enough nor is being a great guy. Whatever was done and whoever was doing it was not enough. We needed to keep those kids away from the other schools more than we actually needed them for ourselves. Old Mo is still drifting away.

David George’s major conclusion regarding Miami: Rick won’t get 15 years to get to the title game like he did at Georgia. That’s it. Well, no fūcking shlt, Dave George.

Talks about this being a great recruiting class, discusses other rankings, but concludes Rick doesn’t have 15 years. Well fūck, there are already topics here discussing his firing because he might not pick the 10th coach people want, or because we missed on a couple of recruits in a top 7 class.

Rick won’t even get anywhere close how much time Dabo got to win his first ship, he’ll be lucky to get how much time Golden got to leave the program in disrepair. Except Rick won’t leave it it in the same state of disrepair. Look what he left Kirby.

Brilliant. George is another south Florida håck.

There is a common suggestion on here that kids in South Florida are “unloyal” and it’s nonsense.

You’re a grown man that’s upset a few kids turned down the college team your a fan of and are trying to knock their morality when you don’t even know them. You’re not in their position, you aren’t in their family or close circle and privy to the details of their recruitment. You would also do what is best for you and your family, like most human beings would.

Furthermore, if we want to get detailed, the University of Miami is a private school in Coral Gables that has very few actual people from Miami and South Florida who attend it. If you want loyalty to a public university in South Florida, why aren’t you upset they don’t go to FIU or FAU?

If you are mad that this top ten class wasn’t perfect because they csme up one DB or one DE short, go at the coaches whose job it is to get it done. At least the stupid Rumph narrative is attacking a grown man. You don’t have a moral high ground over these kids.

It’s just facts man, not hate coming from me on the heritage kids, they handled it the right way in the recruiting process. I do However wish they would have taken a chance on Miami that’s all. I’m sure they knew we were still building and with their help we could be an undefeated team. At the end of the day It is what it is. Like nesta said best I can Go to bama, go Athens, go to Gainesville BUT why not make the crib great

I think Richt's 2007 would've had a great shot at winning the NC. His 2002 team would've gotten killed by Miami's 2002 team. Those are the 2 times he would've made the playoff.

He only won the SEC Championship game twice, so playoff or not, his teams had a history of falling a little short.

I think Miami will be similar to Georgia - Richt will turn a consistently 8 win team into a consistently 10 win team, but not ever get to the NC.

But if we're smart and hire a young, hungry coach after Richt - that guy will get us over the top.
