In all honesty...

Irrespective of the *** whoopin they just received, Notre Dame went 8-5 last year. Tressell went 7-6 before he almost won the National Championship in 2002. It's not unprecedented bro. We just have to work extremely hard in the offseason and have some guys take major steps forward on the defensive side of the ball. The Alex Collins commitment is going to set this offense all the way the **** off when it happens. We just need the guys on the interior of the defense to take MAJOR steps forward. We won't be favored against Florida and Florida State next year. I could see us being favored in EVERY other game during the year except maybe on the road against VT or UNC and those totally depend on how are season is going.

For the Kehoe believers, we will/should have a BEAST type oline next year, No reason, excuse, etc why we shouldnt dominate EVERYONE who lines up in front of our oline. I dont know if its Swazey, or KEhoe. I know Both have their hands in this but we have the talent to have 3 all conference type guys. Dline is a different story but OLINE. NO EXCUSES. Lets see if Kehoe has those guys ready or he has another 2003 fiesta bowl

Not even thinking about 2014 or 2015.

We'll know a lot about the trajectory of the Golden Era when Florida comes to town this year.

Balls to *** accurate! I'll say this, we get Collins & Porter & Pierre stay healthy all season, UFag & FSPoo are gonna get a quick reminder of what a **** stomping is! This offense has the potential with Collins to be the most dynamic offense we've seen in recent memory.

What Fisch does this off-season with S. Mo will be crucial as well. Stephen Morris NEEDS to be in the Heisman trophy discussion if we are to make that level of improvement. He won't be afforded the opportunity to ride shotgun on a team like McCarron did this year. Defense ain't gonna be good enough for that. All those worm burners and inconsistent footwork in the pocket have to go. Dude's accuracy is tied to his shoelaces. There isn't a doubt in my mind that he has the mental capability to control the offense, but he needs to complete 65% of his attempts next year.

2 years to be looking like them. Their big men are BIG. Our S&C Program under previous coaches was ****. If people like us notice though, I'm sure Al Golden does too. Golden is getting the talent part taken care of. This will come too.

how far are we from being at Bama's level?

Will it ever happen again?

Watching their OL just push around ND's D like a bunch of rag dolls was impressive.

I want an RB like Lacy. Kid is a beast.

Watching Cooper be open on almost every throwing play hurts. He will only get better.

Give us two more years, and I think we will be at that level.

Maybe not winning 3 NCs in 4 years, but I think we will be competing for one every year.

That time can't get here soon enough.

Cooper is good, but the ND secondary is hot garbage. Their front seven was good enough all year to cover up how slow and ****** that secondary really was, but Bama took them out of the game and that left the secondary exposed. It also didn't hurt that Bama was able to just run the ball down their throat at will causing ND to jump all over every play fake.

You win and lose up front. Control the line of scrimmage and you have a chance at winning every game.

Sanctions may throw a wrench in all this timeline talk, especially if the scholly reductions are severe. We're looking at what happened to SC this year as possibly happening to us. Not gonna start thinking titles and dynasty until we get that NOI in.

With that said, beat teh Gator this year and maybe I'll start thinking we back.

Our better teams beat that team and would have embarrassed Notre Dame even worse.

It's all about timing. We are going to be at our peak in 2014 when the scholly reductions hit. 2015 will be a pain in the ****, but we have a window, however slight it is

Bama level won't exisit. they're cheating and will get exposed sooner or later. that's when Satan bolts for the pros again...

We're a pantyhose finesse team, and not even close to their level. Nobody will like that but it needs to be said. We'd be brutally exposed in a game like that. Notre Dame shoved us around. We don't stop anything and Fisch won't run the ball. That means you are not legit. Alabama gives up 2 yards fewer per play than we do. They finished second behind Florida State, allowing 4.15 yards per play. We gave up 6.11. As I posted in a recent thread regarding the Gators defense, that's not even the same universe. We want to envision galloping plays into open spaces but the reality would be Alabama defenders shattering everything we schemed, and trying not to laugh. Notre Dame played smack into Alabama's hands last night by lining up in the shotgun and abandoning the run. Does anybody doubt Fisch would brainstorm the same thing? Sure, we'd have some open receivers early but as the game goes on you're worn down and then taken out, like Hearns against Hagler.

We'd need to be built like an SEC team and so far there's no sign of that. If there's anything I'm sick of, it's references to Utough. You're never going to catch Alabama in the weight room. That's minimal improvement, at best. Band aids. We need naturally strong tough talented guys. I remember the high school all star game with Clowney at one defensive end spot and Chickillo on the other. Chickillo made more plays and the announcers were desperately trying to compare the two. But anybody who watched three plays could see the vast, vast difference in ability level. Right now we're getting too many Chickillo caliber defenders and linemen. Combine that with significantly lower intensity level on defense and it means we're a fraud, albeit a fraud with nice skill position players and therefore opportunity to outscore other frauds.

I agree with everything else but the bold basically (I also don't mind UTough btw). The harsh language will make even the most analytical of us want to not agree but something like that never makes me miss a point in this setting. There is no aspect of our squad that makes me think that we're one or two years away from becoming an elite team. We have some nice pieces to be sure and Golden at least has a plan and is a great spokesperson for the football program but it takes more than that. The on-field performance by and large left little to be desired from a week to week basis. Sorry to be Debbie downer and despite my ego, I actually would prefer to be wrong here but I really don't think I am. We need more talent and we need better coordinators on both sides of the ball.

My words, thoughts and observations don't affect the outcomes of things I'm not directly involved in so I don't delude myself when it comes to things like my sports teams. The Canes are much better off than they were for sure but if the standard we as fans want the football program to reach is Top 5 football program year in and year out, we are not close. Not yet and possibly not ever under this regime. Golden is good but he doesn't have enough to me.

If Golden pulls in 2 more elite classes (this year and next) and the coordinators get upgraded or somehow upgrade themselves (lol) by then, than I would feel comfortable predicting a potentially top 10 program in 2018?

I would like to be wrong but I don't think I am. Potentially top 10 football teams/programs have a way of jumping out at you on the field. Our team has some top 10 players and a top 10 coach if he had the X's and O's or better choices as his coordinators but as a whole I see us as top 25 right now.
