I'm convinced Chickillo is not 100%

my theory is..last year he had a better D line and DE to help him...the kid is getting off the ball and the teams seem to move the pocket and run from chick..while no pressure is coming and he runs and runs after the play...before long you get wiped out..??

Chick gets a lot of coverage sacks. This year the QB has needed about 2 seconds to find an open guy to throw to.

Which goes to issues in scheme. D'onofrio isn't helping either unit by playing the CB's 20 yards off the line. Problem being our DL get's no chance at pressure as the QB has an easy window to throw into. He's got LB's playing zones and they clearly have no ******* clue how to play Zone. As has been beaten to death, the defense is a freakn mess this year.

I agree with your last post though that that this should be chicks redshirt freshman year and he would have benefited a ton last year by hitting the gym and working on the scout team. He's a great complimentary DE, who I had pegged as a difference maker.

Unfortunately we are forced to make the same mistake with McCord this year as he should be redshirting, but it is what it is. The kids are getting a **** ton of reps, we are just going to have to take our lumps this year.

he should be playing OLB when we go 3-4 instead of having him be a 3-4 DE. he's not big or strong enough and he was banged up in the off season. only probably going to get worse as the season goes on cause the wear and tear of playing out of position.

Hard to respect your opinion on anything football related after you posted this...

so he's better suited at no more than 255 lbs to play 3-4 DE? he's probably not even 250 but I'll assume he's 255. Stanford would have started him off at OLB from the start. Alabama would have started him off at OLB from the start. They would have focused on his speed and just getting him college strong. and remember the UA game? the kid was super athletic compared to the top high school talent. yet 2nd year into our system he's too un athletic to play OLB? why is that? cause he's been focused #1 on gaining weight. plus I think some see that #71 and automatically see slow yet against GT he's doing his best out in space. he'd be more of an elephant role type 3-4 OLB like Upshaw was with Bama. Drop in coverage once and a while but really is a hybrid OLB/DE. and do people actually watch some of the guys who play OLB in 3-4s besides the Steelers and Packers? Those teams like speedy OLBs in their system. Most other 3-4 teams prefer a guy with size first. Jarrett, former DT, Johnson played OLB in the NFL - where the speed is greater than any where else. Yet Chick is too unathletic to play OLB in college? y'all disappointing.

He is still on par to match last year's output.

Tough when he is often playing with 3 other FCS level players on the defensive line. He's legitimately the only guy worth a **** on the DL outside of the true freshmen.

He showed what he is made of in that GT game. Its definitely there, just gotta find a way to get him some help before he has his best years in the pros.

You need to look at him closer in open space.. Dude moves like a DT regardless of his weight.... On paper it makes sense but when you watch him play..he cant play there

Chick last year vs VT

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=70JAOMxKgC0

If you watch you'll see that he is playing the 5 technique outside the tackle and is getting upfield. There are a couple of plays where he get pressure on Thomas by beating the olineman. You also see him making plays in the run game. Fast forward to this year Chick is lining up head up on the tackle disabling him for getting upfield on a pass rush. In the run game he's not effective either because he has to engage the tackle head on then use his strength to disengage from the tackle to the ball carrier. Problem with that is he's not strong enough to man the position. Yes he's gain weight and strength but its not enough to handle an 6-5 325 offensive tackle coming right at him. That position is for more of a big body guy like Grimble, Pierre, and Robinson. To put it simple Chick is playing out of position. You can have all FSU defensive ends playing the position Chick is playing and all of them to will become invisible in both the passing and running game. Now get some of Saban's DE's at Bama and you'll see a huge difference of play from that position. They are big enough to man the position. Briscoe, Bostwick (recruit), and O'Donnell are the type of guys we will see playing this position soon.

Its a pretty unfair position the kid is in right now. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he's playing hurt.

Yea man from watching the under armour all star game even to last year. He was unblockable at times..we saw some glimpses like yea this man is gonna be a player. Even against Bethune dude was invisible. The whole "he's a great motor guy" argument which i think is racist by the way. he hasnt been showing a lot of motor this year. I dont see him running down plays. getting after quarterbacks after being initially blocked, man I dont see anything. Absolutely nothing. Something has to be up.

Helps when you have Olivier Vernon, Micanor Regis, Adwele Ojomo to take some of the pressure off of him. He is the only player on that line worth paying attention to.

This. People don't realize how much better the rest of our line was last year.

Vernon was a 3rd round draft pick who is now starting to get some burn on the Dolphins.
Ojomo was an undrafted free agent that kicked *** in preseason and earned his spot on the Giants. Only reason he doesn't see the field is because of how ridiculously good their D-Line is.

That left an unknown Chickillo as the second or third-most important D-Lineman which freed him up.

This year, he's pretty much our only lineman worth anything, so offenses can simply key on him and not worry too much about the rest, and he's still on track to perform like last year. I'm not worried about this guy, he's the epitome of toughness on this team if you watched the off-season Raising Canes. He'll be fine given time to adjust and when you add some more talent to the line.

Also Regis would be entrenched as a starter at one spot at DT. He wasnt spectacular but he is/was a lot better than what we are trotting out there right now.
