I mean I saw some plays against Notre Dame where he was being pushed 10 yards down the field on impact by one player. I never saw that last year. He looks like a totally different player from last year. I know he gained weight and weight room numbers increased but he looks weaker than last year. He definitely looks slower and doesnt have that pop to his game.

Its a pretty unfair position the kid is in right now. Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he's playing hurt.

Yea man from watching the under armour all star game even to last year. He was unblockable at times..we saw some glimpses like yea this man is gonna be a player. Even against Bethune dude was invisible. The whole "he's a great motor guy" argument which i think is racist by the way. he hasnt been showing a lot of motor this year. I dont see him running down plays. getting after quarterbacks after being initially blocked, man I dont see anything. Absolutely nothing. Something has to be up.

I'm convinced he's too young to be an anchor. It's a **** shame he's expected to be one at this point.

The added weight has slowed him down and he's not strong enough to win a match-up with a 300+ lb offensive tackle.

Agree. And I'll add that I never thought that he was an explosive player just a relentless one. As others have said, if he were on a better DL (even an average one) he would be performing a lot better. As it is offenses can and have focused on slowing him down.

he should be playing OLB when we go 3-4 instead of having him be a 3-4 DE. he's not big or strong enough and he was banged up in the off season. only probably going to get worse as the season goes on cause the wear and tear of playing out of position.

He's not athletic enough to play a rush OLB in a 3-4 scheme

He is. Especially the type of 3-4 our DC and our head coach are trying to put together. They want the guy with size who's going to set the edge first and rush 2nd. people have brought up the Ravens style 3-4 (could use the Patriots style of 3-4 when they had a true 3-4). Jarret Johnson played OLB for the Ravens. He played DT at Alabama. They didn't have him out there to be athletic. They had him out there to stuff the run and do enough in coverage. Vrabel with the Patriots used to rush after chucking the TE. Wasn't Mr. Athlete. And that's the pros. Can get away with being even less of an athlete in college. He's not going to be Derrick Thomas out there, but that just makes him like 99% of all OLBs. Only so many true big time rush OLBs. I'd bet on him getting more sacks from OLB than from 3-4 DE though.

need to think about those UVA teams that Golden was the DC for. They had big dudes at LB (for college at least) - Darryl Blackstock, Ahmad Brooks, Kai Pharham and all them. None of those guys exactly blew up the combine. But they did good in college and stuck around the league for a bit.

OLB? Wow. Time to log off for the night.

he weighed 240 last year. is maybe 255 this year? he's forcing weight on and all. he could just let his body get bigger naturally and focus on just getting stronger and faster instead of his main focus being getting heavier.

Kid is asked to do more than ******* JaDeveon Clowney is a USCe and is playing with MUCH less talent around him.

Love the kid and feel like he's a high motor guy, but agree with Alex, people are nuts if they see him as a 3-4 OLB. He's not explosive enough and would be a huge liability if he had to drop in coverage.

Hard to respect your opinion on anything football related after you posted this...

He should be a RS freshman this year though he was obviously good enough for us to play a ton.

Its a lot to ask of a young guy to carry the entire DL

my theory is..last year he had a better D line and DE to help him...the kid is getting off the ball and the teams seem to move the pocket and run from chick..while no pressure is coming and he runs and runs after the play...before long you get wiped out..??

Chick gets a lot of coverage sacks. This year the QB has needed about 2 seconds to find an open guy to throw to.
