I'm actually concerned about this game

Every game we have won included several breaks, turnovers, or special teams, bombs, etc..., so we should be concerned. You can't always count on those breaks.

You mean every game we won concerned NORMAL things that happen in a football game.

We are 5-4 and have yet to beat a D-1 opponent with ease, of course you should be worried about this game.

Indeed, Vegas expects us to lose.

The good news (1)is Curtis Porter and (2) this team seems to be focused (listening to the interview with Al Golden).

we lose this game and you'll be able to hear a fart in the 400 sections on the field come the USF game

The point is, those "normal" things often do not happen. So if they don't happen against UVA, don't be surprised if we lose.

By way of illustration, the stats against Va Tech show that we got lucky to win that game, notwithstanding an inordinate number of gaffes by Va Tech. In fact, the game would have been tied had they scored and converted two, but Logan Thomas inexplicably forgot how to take the snap.

Running the ball shouldn't be a problem, they have the worst run defense in America. There should be a lot of open receivers when we throw if we run it well and consistently, which we should be able to do.

Have we run the ball effectively in any game this year?

BC, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and I guess you could say VT.

I disagree that we ran the ball well against anybody. Occasionally, duke has broken a long run. But we have been so woeful in short yardage situations that fisch is terrified to run the ball.

Yes they do.

Turnovers, part of the game. Well we say Jacory Harris throw how many INT...we should realize that it happens.

Special teams, part of the game (see Beamer ball). In fact it is a lot of the game.

Bombs, part of the game. It is called a deep pass. Coverage breaks down, WR/TE get open.

These are all part of the game.

The game doesn't work the way you describe it. What happen is what happen, the game is over and we beat them bad.

If you truly think we beat Va Tech bad[ly] then we must have watched different games. How often do we block a punt? Va Tech was the first I can remember in several years. How often does an opposing qb botch the snap and turn the ball over on the goal line, particularly when they have an opportunity to tie up the game and switch the momentum? And 80-yard kick off returns happen occasionally, but can't be expected regularly. Would you not agree that it is at least atypical for all of these "normal" breaks to happen in a single game, not to mention Thomas missing wide open receivers?

You can't do that botched snap ****. What happens if Perryman makes the normal tackle on Logan Thomas on that long run? They have 5 points, they can then score on the botched snap play. The game doesn't work like that. These plays may seem special but they are "normal" in the sport. Players turn the ball over and hit players deep on "bombs."

As for beating them badly...

We won by 18 points (3 Possessions),

We held them to 12 points,

We forced 3 turnovers,

and then

We went 1-12 on 3rd down,

We had 8 penalties for 55 yards, and

We punted 7 times

We killed them and barely had an offense. The game was a blow out and we kept give VT opportunities. We beat them badly, they couldn't score. We won by 18. If we held every team to 12 points we have the third best scoring defense overall.

VT got beaten bad.

A "blowout" where they were on our goal line w/ the opportunity to tie the game up midway through the 4th quarter? Again, you watched a different game than I did.

Again, turnovers happen ALL OVER THE FIELD. It happens. Fine I will give them the ball back on the 1 yard line, if you give the Logan Thomas 73 yard run on a miscue by Denzel Perryman, fair? Add 7, minus 7. We hold them to 12 points.

They lost by 18, were held to 12 points and our offense played like crud. It wasn't close.

We should be concerned about every game. We're not good enough to overlook anyone.

I don't see how anyone could not be concerned. They've beaten us twice in a row and generally speaking have owned us since we joined the conference. I'm not even going to bring up The Game That Never Happened. They are always smart and well coached and execute the little things that absolutely kill us like hitting the wide open tight ends in the flat.

I can absolutely see us losing this game. It should not be taken lightly.

This.
