This post is not a knock in Kam Kinchens declaring for the NFL. He was all class, great leader, and had to do what was right for him.

But… hypothetical scenario Kam decided to run it back. No doubt it helps our defense with a leader and big playmaker at Safety. We still don’t get strong units at every defensive position, but would it make us effective enough to change our fate this season as a contender?

We'd still need at least one more Safety. Maybe two.

On a group chat yesterday, I mentioned that I don't remember the 5-6 1997 Safeties struggle like this. We're talking about Delvin Brown, though they at least had Duane Starks at corner.

2012-2013 with Kacey Rogers, AJ Highsmith and others?

In 35 years of obsessing over this program, I simply don't remember something like this.

And, I realize it's a combination of things. Nonetheless, I've watched HS teams communicate and get themselves aligned cleaner than we do.

Lu I know you watch safety play, so u can relate to the stark contrast to get safety play (which I am sure they aren't 5 stars) to what we put on field.. their guys cleaned up messes and limited gains in alley with tackles, our guys are still in back pedal when even QB breaks line of scrimmage

I was thinking yesterday about Kam albeit in a somewhat different context.

Kam is making plays in the NFL these days of course. Yet Kam received a lot of criticism on this board for his play last year.

If a guy like Kichens can't look good at safety in a Guidry defense, yet he does look at safety in the NFL, where does the problem truly lie?

Sir I’m not sure if you’re aware of this but….

“we’re blessed that the NFL took Kam and James off of our hands as the safeties we have now may not get as many ints but they will play assignment football, they will not give up any big plays and they will keep everything in front of them with sound tackling”…,,.

I've harped on the Safety issue since before Spring Ball. I think anyone could see it was going to be a question mark, at the very best. But, this is something else.

You can know absolutely zero about coverages and know that guys shouldn't so consistently be screaming at each other and frantic to get aligned right before the snap. If you go back to my posts from USF, I was at a loss for how poorly we handled basic motion. I think it's gotten worse. Because now we can barely handle a shift. Just never seen anything like it. And, of course, I don't know the calls nor am I in the film room to know what they're trying.

I know we paid for Powell, and I was hopeful he could be a viable Boundary Safety. But, man, he just might be better suited as a Nickel in zone coverage. We've seen everything magnitudes worse than I could have imagined. And, I expected a struggling group!

We could also use a LG.

Cohen went undrafted and currently sits on the Browns practice squad.

These 3 wouldn't guarantee anything. But what would we look like with Kam, Cohen and Jeremiah Smith? I'll even throw in a healthy Damari Brown.

Slow down there. He had a pick 6 but doesnt mean he looks good at safety. He is a backup in the NFL. For as many good plays he made at UM he made some serious bonehead plays.

But Guidry needs to be fired after the season.

Nahhhhh...

Don't yall start this sh*t now.

Yall were 1,000% bashing Kam Kinchens last year & blaming most of the busted play TD's on him.

Yall wanted him gone.
Lettem know lmaoo. I honestly wish we had Corey Flagg. At least we’d f*****get lined up right @JustAFanHTX. Corey had 10 tackles last night vs OU… we let the wrong guy walk! Also our fans are dumb as rocks. Signing off for the day! Blessings to all!
