Has anyone noticed the difference in height and weight of Richt's offensive lines vs UM's average over the years past? UGA's lines were much smaller than UM's over the years.

What is the ideal height and weight that you guys would like to see our OL recruits average for the years to come?

It really does depend on what you want to schematically. Clearly scoring points is the ultimate goal! Anyways two of my favorite tackles from Miami have been Winton and Fox. I believe they are both 6'7ish! I actually like the idea of taking a big tightend and beefing them up a little. I think leaving high school in the 6'4-6'7 240-260 range is where I want my guys coming in at the tackle spot.

Id like my guards to be about 6'3-6'5 in the 260-290 range out of high school.

Center 6'2-6'3 275ish

What is #Miami #Hurricanes OL Coach Stacy Searels (@SSearels) looking for in an O-linemen?

The staff's power point slide outlines the prototypical Olinemen coach Richt and coach Searls is looking for at Miami moving toward.

Go Canes

I feel like height and frame are more important than weight at the HS level. Prospects can get in a legit weight room and add the necessary weight to bang at the D1 level. It's all about projection and taking prospects with the frame that can handle additional weight. Obviously, film is key as well because TAPE is the separates the stars from the jags.

I was 6'5 268lb coming out of school, coach wanted me at 278lb, I was more agility than power. Sucked either way.

Yup, just look at Patrick bethel on defense. Someone put up info he was already at 265 no so long ago

I think athleticism, flexibility, and quick feet is more crucial to an oline's success rather than extreme heights and weights. Ian Symonette comes to mind...

Yeah, I like those two guys as well. My man is Bryant McKinnie and Eric Flowers. I think UM has done pretty well developing those big guys 6'7 - 6'8 over the years.

Saw Bryant Mckinnie and Vernon Carey last night....BEHEMOTHS.
Crazy but Vernon looks in better shape than he did when he played.

I played tackle undersized....but I can take a prototypical tackle at about 6'4 280-290. Im bias since I was a small guy but I like my tackles to have feet...and flexibility. There are still some dancing bears out there with good feet.

What totally confused me about um was their recruitment of behemoths..yet wanting to run a zone blocking scheme....Like why have Dogwu out there trying to reach block and get to the second level. Gall etc...Kehoe really fell off.

Also im a fan of getting guys that played DL to switch over to OL at times...can be productive..

I feel ya about undersized guys... Ultimately, if a guy can play and have that dog in him then I want him. But at that tackle spot aside from the good feet that guy has to have long arms. Typically a 6'4 guys arm length is what's going to get him in trouble against good pass rushers. However, you can get away with a 6'4 guy at RT but at LT you need that length and good feet.

Always see Mckinnie on Nikki Beach for the Sunday brunch. Good dude.

Anyway, Prop Joe, that last sentence scares me..please dont tell me you are one of those cats who thinks Norton should switch to OL? Man I got big plans for that guy up the middle.

OL is such a crapshoot. One position I hate evaluating. You just never know. Jason Fox was a nobody recruit **** near and he turned into a 3-4 year starter at UM and up until this year was cashing NFL checks. While a guy like Reggie Youngblood who was a 5 star on everyones list flamed out. Same with a guy like Andrew Bain. He was the goods at Ely. Was below average here.

Thought Jermaine Johnson was going to be a star because he was such a good athlete for a man his size. Dud. Sam Young was a 5 star at STA and Marcus Gilbert was the "other guy"...Now Gilbert is the one still in the league and Young is somewhere probably coaching football in Indiana or something.

If you hit on 2 or 3 studs you will be set for years...you miss on 2 or 3 and you are screwed.

No im not "that guy"....

I would've been more so the guy that would've looked at shirting a Jelani Hamilton type and seeing what he would give as a swing tackle. (Jelani lower body always was a bit too sknny for my liking though) see Cameron Erving at fsu.

OL is a spot I don't look at stars AT ALL....I more so would look at who is recriting a kid..and it doesn't have to be BAMA, or big name SEC schools. UVA, Wisky,BC,IOWA, are on a guy I would shake the leaves.

the issue with ol there are so many probabilities. Weight gain/Weight loss, scheme fit (zone blocking, power etc), Grades, Intelligence, Toughness that you cant predict it...in high school they just were bigger than everyone, and just leaned on every body.
Most physically intimidating guy ol wise I remember coming straight out of high school..was from my area and we played on rivals school and made all district teams together for two years...DAVIN JOSEPH...Dude played both ways for Hallandale...I had to block him on the dl...felt like hitting a wall. He was athletic as **** and best wrestler in the state. If I would had to drop a guy it would look like he did coming out of high school..

Davin Joseph was built like a man in HS. Didnt he win the state title in wrestling in the highest weight classification? Was one of the kids that randomly chose OU. We get one of those every 5 years or so down here. (Stockar McDougle was the first one for a min when he went there.) Yes he was a man.

Agree that stars dont tell the whole story. I also think you have to have an "insane/mentally off" chip in our head to be a great OLineman. Outgoing kids scare me. Kids who are too "jolly" scare me. Its not an exact science but give me the kid who doesnt say much but has that look of death in his eyes. That natural skowl. A kid who wants to start a fight every once in a while on the field or off. Leon Searcy had it. So did McKinnie. Vernon Carey too.

We should have known we were in trouble with last years oline when the infamous "team picture" photos surfaced and our Oline guys were the main ones clownin around. Smh.

I have faith in the future of our oline because of Richts focus on toughness and some of the guys we are bringing in.

I hope all the players have feet. That would be weird if they didn't

The bolded is where i meant toughness...

I look at that as well...I went to an AH Patriots game and saw Herbert the tackle...literally dancing on the field during plays...clowning around on the sidelines..granted it was a blow out...but his jollyness was on a level 10..and i was automatically turned off. Slaton was on the same field trying to still maul fools...Herbert was blocking had a good game...but it was just something i see with that...i automatically see something there.Lineman dont like to excerpt extra energy (i was one)....and if u have time to actually be dancing during plays...you aint going hard....

On junior day, pictures were sent out with the ideal height weights of each position on the line straight from Searles on Twitter.

Somebody should be able to find them again
