I remember that game...I thought they should have fired the entire staff in san fran and banned them from the flight home.

The clemson game and kicking to spiller too. that was not a smart coaching decision. In

"Not smart"? A bit of understatement. perhaps? :)

I remember I was one of the few still giving Randy a pass going into the 2010 season. The ohio state game was pretty much the last straw. The writing was on the wall from the very beginning. This guy could not manage a game FOR S.HIT! The clock management was ridiculous. Ahhhh looking back on those days makes me love Golden even more........

The Clemson game in '09. Randy's eyes were the size of grapefruits the whole game. One of the all time WOAT game coaching.

Richard Gordon retuning kicks. Scholly offers to Stegall, Adderly, k. robinson, and buxton. Monroe lining up at receiver. Yup, worse than probation.

Shannon, Harris, Nix,... Good times, good times......
Sweet memories... gat ****!

I think, that in a few years when we can have better perspective, the Shannon era will be viewed as a more darker and generally 'sad' time for the program than the mid 90's probation era. He was an awful awful head coach.

I already look at it this way. Don't need time to see how badly the man screwed things up.

Yes but anyone that ignorant brands their staff with a do not hire. Is there one former Shannon assistant that has done anything of note... Become a good OC? Become a good DC? Become a Head Coach? There is a reason most of his staff was shown the door... A general lack of intelligence and work ethic which they learned from the man in charge.

Well one of the main cogs in his coaching tree has turned into a good coach i suspect....he wasnt that good here. But

I've mentioned this before and I guess it bares mentioning again here.

One of the most under-appreciated aspects of being a head coach is having a solid coaching network from which to find assistants. Look at the most successful D1 and NFL coaches and you will find that they can always replace talented assistants with other talented assistants. Coach Golden is fairly well connected in this regard. Randy and coker were not.

Randy did have one good relationship (with then recently-fired ASU head coach, Dirk Koetter). It appeared that he landed Koetter to be OC but when that fell thru, Randy was reduced to craigslist...which is where Patrick Nix was the only one to respond to his ad.

Perhaps moronic, idiotic, retarded, or just plain f.uck.ing stupid would be more appropriate?

Pretty much it. There are plenty of coaches who did great things at a certain level, then flamed out when they bumped up. Gerry Faust built Cinci Moeller into a powerhouse and busted at ND. In way over his head. I liked Shannon as a player. Liked him as a DC, had lots of success. I thought the only way he would succeed as head guy at Miami would be to surround himself with good assistants. Didn't happen. Didn't have the skill set to run the whole deal and he lost control. I don't hate the guy, he's a Cane. But Golden needed a pretty big broom to clean up the mess that was left.

Who was it that interviewed that guy and thought head coach material... That guy will be the father of a successful coaching tree one day... I feel like Nancy , why? why? why?
This was all Donna, desperation rookie mistake....RS came up with a chart highlighting how he was going to enforce exactly what Donna wanted, particularly discipline and she bit.

I hope the NCAA doesn't use Donna's statement that RS knocked any interview out of the park to challenge her credibility...

Walton was a great DB coach IMO, he just wasn't ready to be a DC. If Jeff Fisher Hired him as a DC I would assume he's made giant leaps.

It's a stretch of epic proportions to even partially blame Ice for the in-game incompetence of Shannon and his coordinators. U just lose credibility and undermine any worthwhile argument u might otherwise have. And haven't we talked enough about Harris?
