I really don't care what we do on Defense.....

There is really no such thing as a great defense in college football anymore.

Did you watch Bama's 11 man 5 star defense led by the "best" defensive coach in CFB get gashed by Oklahoma for 516 yards or Auburn for 400 yards or 628 yeards by Texas A and M?

How about FSU's 11 man 5 star defense giving up 449 yards of offense to Auburn?

Offense wins titles PERIOD!!!

You cannot stop the spread/read option in college football. Coaches do not have enough time to teach a style of defense that would work to a bunch of 18 year old kids in college.

I'm more worried about our offense which has sputtered as much as our defense in big games over the last 2 years. Our offensive tempo sucks and we tend to try and convert on alot of long low percentage passes.

Ever since Jimbo arrived, FSU has been using a quick strike ball control offense with high percentage throws. I can only dream we do the same thing or that getting rid of Stephen Morris will help accomplish the goal.

Apparently you don't know much about football cuz Defense Wins Championships as illustrated below:

Total Defenses of the BCS-era Champions
1998 Tennessee - 17th
1999 FSU - 19th
2000 OU - 8th
2001 Miami - 6th
2002 * - 23rd
2003 LSU - 1st
2004 USC - 6th
2005 Texas - 10th
2006 Florida - 6th
2007 LSU - 3rd
2008 Florida - 9th
2009 Alabama - 2nd
2010 Auburn - 60th
2011 Alabama - 1st
2012 Alabama - 5th
2013 - FSU - 3rd

Only once in the BCS era was there a team that didn't have a top 25 defense & win the Championship & that was 2010 Aubarn with Scam Newton at QB. If Offense wins Championships then why doesn't Oregon win the Championship every year? Oh that's right, Stanford with their DEFENSE shuts them down. Come back when you get a clue

Thanks to McGahee2theHouse for the chart from an older post

So, OP is right. It doesn't matter what you do on defense. If you have Cam Newton & Gus Malzahn.

Defense looked pretty important in our bowl game.
It was pretty obvious who had a top 10 defense and who didn't.

I get the OP's point.
It's becoming more and more an offensive game.
Saban even commented on it.
Stats show a high correlation between efficient high converting 3rd down offenses that posses the ball 30+ minutes to better defensive stats against those that don't.
Not to say the defensive doesn't matter cause it does but the days of teams like Bama winning it soley on defense with average offenses is pretty much over unless the NCAA changes some rules.

Auburn was quite fortunate in 2010 also, even if not as high profile as 2013 and some of it has been forgotten. Clemson dropped a simple touchdown pass in overtime of the season opener. Otherwise Auburn's national title chance is gone before it starts. They didn't have the build up in prior seasons to overcome a loss. It likely would have been TCU versus Oregon in the title game. People tend to forget how highly TCU was rated. They were favored over 1-loss Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl.

Also, Auburn got some breaks in overcoming the 24-0 deficit at Alabama. Mark Ingram fumbled on the sideline and somehow the ball straddled the inside of the chalk and went into the end zone for a touchback instead of going out of bounds, with Alabama retaining possession. Trent Richardson dropped a simple touchdown pass at the 2 yard line. It was 24-7 at halftime but rightfully should have been a greater deficit.

Alabama's defense was way down this season. That's the only fragment of truth in the OP. I had to laugh at his claim that a dominant defense is no longer possible, just two years after Alabama allowed a surreal 3.32 yards per play for the entire season, the best in several decades.

The difference is that those teams are putting the clamps on all the mediocre offenses they face... which we're not doing.
