high on the board after the last 3 weeks. Everyone has their opinion on the problems but hopefully this is something we can all agree on and give hope for the future of the program.
I'm pretty sure most of us agree that Al Golden without the NCAA cloud can recruit just by looking at our 2014 class. If we can put together another top 5 class in 2015, with guys like Gibson, Irvin, etc the cupboard should be pretty full with players. As much as it pains me to use them as an example cause I hate the Gators, if Al Golden turns out to be our Ron Zook, we should have a very long list of coaches jumping at the chance to coach the Hurricanes.

AS we all know a head coach is only as good as his staff around him. A good coach knows when to cut ties with someone who just isn't cutting it. I believe Golden is a really good coach IMO... Now, if he can shore up his defensive staff with the resources and recruiting area he is in, he can be a great coach. He has cleaned up a lot of the mess that was left here and game management (timeouts/penalties/clock management) have improved. I am still not sold on Coley but to this point the offense has done decent. Golden has 1 simple job this offseason. Get rid of D'Onofrio and get a solid D coordinator. If he does that, we have the talent with what is already here and what is coming in to be a great team. I am not giving up on AG just yet. There is something that tells me he just doesn't want to make the move mid season. At least I hope!

This is what I don't understand. On what basis do you, or anyone have by making such statements that Golden is a really good coach? Really good coaches show tangible improvements in year 3. Really good coaches don't keep slackers on their staff. Really good coaches don't go into late season free falls again and again and again.

Yes he improved a Temple team that was so far in the dump, putting their helmets on right was considered a drastic improvement. But his overall body of work is exactly what it reflects. A middle of the pack, mediocre coach. Anything other than stating the fact is opinion. Facts don't lie. He is just another schlep.

Really good coaches show tangible improvements in year 3.

Butch Davis was 5-6 in year 3.

The 1997 schedule was much tougher than this year's...it's not even close. We played 4 ranked teams that year. In the thick of crippling scholarship losses. So your reference ******* sucks...

This 2013 team should have won at least 10 games in the regular season with this schedule.

The jury is certainly out. Golden has yet to recruit a single recruiting class on an even playing field. When he got the job in December, Miami has three commits. Three. Its November right now and we have 27. Think about that. There was no recruiting class to "save." He had to start from scratch against winning programs that had been recruiting the same kids for 2 years. Every other class since then has been under the NCAA cloud. And what he inherited from Shannon was a roster devoid of a lot of talent and full of head cases. Even this one until recently. And remember we're at 75 'ships right now. We're essentially on probation.

He gets a long leash with me. This program could have easily imploded. In fact, it should have. A bad team with bad kids heading not only into the sensationalized Yahoo **** and an NCAA investigation, but a nearly THREE YEAR NCAA investigation. We should have regressed. Instead I see a lot of promising young talent and a nice class coming in.

As for the on the field performance, I see an offense that is missing some pieces (again, we're playing at 75) and is being affected by injuries and depth, but is very close. On defense the talent is really, really problematic at a number of positions, especially the DL. But I see a lot of talent coming in, and I am EXCITED about what AG and Co. can do on the trail in '15 with the NCAA shackles off (well, we will actually be on probation with slightly limited scholarships... AG can't catch a break).

Winning is CFB is a margin game. Playing with 75, missing some key pieces because of a reduced roster and depth, those are game-changers.

Are there coaching problems, especially on defense? **** yes. Are the HC and DC culpable if the scheme isn't working? Yes, and they are. Should the position coaches and the kids be held more accountable for how many kids are out of position and make mentals? I certainly think so.

The coaching needs to improve. A LOT. Before you reply with a bunch of nonsense, read that again and remember I said it, ok? But even more so does the talent on defense. This article really summed up a lot of what I have been saying since before the year. We really have a JAG defense right now, full of guys who won't sniff the NFL, especially on the DL. In CFB its pretty simple sometimes. No pass rush, no defense. It exposes every defensive player.

Well said Bomb! You have a better way with words then I do.

People said the same bs about Shannon.

If you're grading on Rivals rankings, sure. But unless those guys perform on the field then who cares.

Guys like Coley, Burns, Figueroa look great now but we all thought the same of guys like Benjamin, Aldarious, and Seantrel.

Clappy had 3 losses in 3 years...you might be able to win a few without great talent, but you can definitely win a lot without good coaching

The chest thumpers don't think Al did us any favors; they think Miami football runs on autopilot cause we "da U".....morons are still jerking off to 30 for 30 reruns.

Al leaving would have been a disaster when the Yahoo story broke. Think about who would of taken that gig and what recruits would of even bothered.

Good recruits are only as good as you develop them

Exactly. This staff, with Alabama's roster is 8-4 at best. Closer to .500 IMO.

And saban with our guys he is a 3 loss team

You can't be serious w this

Saban went 6–5–1, 6–6, 7–5 and 6-6 his first four years at Mich St.. He is not some sort of miracle worker. And for reference the 3 years before he got there they were 5-6 and 6-6 and 5-6. So it took him 5 years to get better than the previous coach.

Like was said above Coker lost 3 games in 3 years. Now he is coaching some startup in Texas.

I call BS. Because the fact remains, really good coaches(which is the point I am arguing that Golden isn't one) will still make tangible improvements of the roster they have. Does Art Briles have some star studded roster that he has taken to a #4 ranking? Or did he show up and start coaching the **** out the roster he had? We all know that answer.

Golden has not made one single player significantly better in 3 years. Not one. Quit with the excuses. You were wrong with Coker(you scoffed at all who wanted him gone), you were late to see Shannon for the **** that he was and, at least you are consistent in being wrong, you are wrong on Golden. He is a putz. His record indicates that.

Its going to be a long *** offseason if you can't even embrace progress. I honestly think every ACC team we played had a very good coaching staff and we were outcoached. Lot of veteran staffs on our schedule and other teams in the ACC appeared tighter and more organized. I think our coaching staff has a lot of up and comer type guys that this was their big chance to show what they got. Sometimes you need some older heads in there, more experience on the staff. We have a bunch of young energetic and genuinely solid dudes on the staff as far as I can tell but we could use 2 or 3 more X's and O's type guys, especially at least 1 coordinator, to improve the product on the field. Just my 02.

As far as talent goes, I'm encouraged. We have a lot of young guys who look really good. 2011 and 2012 were bad classes looking back as far as numbers go, and I worry if we will still be having depth issues 3 years from now. But plenty of young star talent and by the eye test, guys appear to be developing at least marginally better with this staff. Theres plenty of room for improvement but we have another year after this where we won't be losing a ton of talent.

I'm ****ed about the season but I feel like we are closer.
