I Have an answer to our Defensive Problems- Dave Wannstedt..

What's Woody Widenhofer doing these days? Dude turned Vandy in the late 90s into an elite attacking defense (I'm serious) that sent a lot of guys to the NFL. He's got to be in his 70s, but him and Dave together? Stache-power!!

I'd take The Stache in a heartbeat. He'll give you what will work with the guys we recruit down here. And he's a **** good recruiter too. I'll never forget JJ's words about him many years ago. He said Stache was "the best football coach he's ever been around." He might not be a great HC, but he's a proven DC. He won't wow you with anything fancy, but he'd be a major upgrade.

I was pumping up Frank Spasticcolon last year when we were in this same situation at the end of the year. He's another guy who has done a lot with a lot less over the years when he was fielding some really nice defenses at BC.
 
I mentioned him in another thread this weekend. Wannstedt would definitely work and should be on the shortlist for potential DC. He would have instant credibility with the current players and future recruits and if he succeed here he can probably parlay that success into another HC gig at the college or pro level.

I don't understand. You are the one consistently berating our coaches for their lack of sophistication and now you are asking for the simplest defense possible?

We run a a very simple scheme. There is nothing remotely complicated about what we do. We just don't have the athletes to execute.

Lu...let me ask you something. Watch the 1st and 2nd quarter of the Duke game and breakdown the defensive series. It will change your opinion. Anyone who hasn't done this cant make a informed opinion about the problems on defense. I have watched almost every game except for VT (DVR didnt record) and you will find the same problems.

You're a weird guy following me around this board, yet you didn't answer when I answered you directly the last couple times. You cursed at me like an emotional woman and I answered anyway. I think you have things a little confused. I don't answer to you. I hate to break it to you, but no one answers to anyone on this board, the very least someone like you who doesn't seem to offer anything but antagonism.

I'm going to explain this one last time in an effort to be reasonable.

Simple doesn't equate to passive. Do you understand that? Simple can be aggressive. I berate them for lack of sophistication? Show me where and what you've interpreted. If you can, I'll address it. If you can't, I'll take it as an admission that you're talking out of your ***.

I mainly talk about how they've consciously made a decision to play this style. I've also outlined scenarios for decision-making because it's entertaining to me. I don't berate anyone. I talk about football. I try to mention substantive issues. To me, that's what I like to use the message board for. Those are the discussions I prefer. If you don't like them, allow me to explain that I don't care.

I watched the games. I've watched almost every snap of our games and our opponent's (the non-HS ones) games this year. SB…let me ask you something. Offer something of substance. Break down the games, plays or throw us some videos, pictures or something. Then we can discuss. Look forward to it.

Frank Spaz's defenses always gave our teams fits back in the early 00s. Dorsey was like a clueless ****** going up against that zone defense full of white dudes. Spaz had them playing lights out.
 
Unfortunately most people remember his career as a head coach quitting under pressure.

I think most don't realize he is pretty accomplished, and he was known as a beastly recruiter.
