related to the 2017 team and recent history the first 9 games might leave us with a 9-win season.

or
we lose to Wake or Cuse and mess up the best shot we've had at an ACC championship.
or
SMU and Brashard Smith plus ex Canes beat us up. SMU and Lashlee will be a challenge.

I wouldn't feel this way except the GT game has left such a bad taste. Where was the urgency, the leadership, the adjustments. I don't see much fire from this group, yeah, they celebrate minor stuff but where is the we have to win intensity. I also would be far more confident is our defense didn't suck. The talent is there but they get less effective each game instead of improving. Every aspect of the defense is flawed, the DL, LB, and DB. We can't say any group has performed.

I'd love to see us dominate in the running game, that eats clock and lets the defense rest. As everyone I love Cam but are we playing to gain him the Heisman or to win games using ALL our talent. We used our RBs to beat FSU and got complaints that we should've thrown the ball more and used Cam more. I say exploit opponents’ weakness and if they struggle against the run then pound them. Last year we beat Clemson and the TD run by Brashard Smith was a huge factor but face it, Martinez or Fletcher are not running 90 yards on one play but Chris Johnson can. I wonder if our OL wants to block more for running plays versus pass blocking constantly. We've become a one man show.

I know I'm rambling but I'm an old man anxiously wanting another NC for my Canes before I leave this planet. Next year I hope we use Emory or Luke and not a portal QB. I fear the way we've used our roster lots of our lightly used talent will portal out and that would be sad. I also hope Saturday this team erase my sick feeling by crushing Wake. GO CANES!

No reason to lose the GT game. Simply out coached and the real talent of the UM defense exposed. The offense is gonna need to score 49+ against Wake Forest and Syracuse to make up for the defensive liabilities. You know both Wake and Syracuse have been dissecting the game films for all the P5 games where the UM defense is giving up 30+ points a game.

There’s a good reason why you’re nervous. This program has a history of fading badly the last few games of the season, and losing multiple games to teams they should beat easily.

Cam is the difference, but then the offense looks like crap against a week Georgia Tech defense.

It's among my concerns as well... Hoping players like Elijah Lofton, Joseph, etc. assume that their eventual seniority-based job security (which I know goes against virtually every coaching cliche) would be honored as much as their talented predecessors' appear to be now (the reason for their lack of additional playing time today may be their assurance of not having it ripped from them by talented underclassmen tomorrow... Hopefully that offsets any potential current playing time concerns they may have... And hopefully they stay...

As to fan ptsd from recent seasons, that's completely understandable and probably relatable to everyone here. It's kind of the same reason we used ask 'are we back' more often than we do now at any promising glimpse (hope mixed with recency bias when we were closer in time to being nationally competitive... And somewhat ironically, it's also the reason the media thinks that we assume we're back (going by our recent reactions to a little bit of sunlight... When most cane fans are probably bouncing the same concerns you have, about recent collapses and underperfoming after a little controversy or at the end of seasons, bowl games, etc.

Here's to the rest of this season being different and validating its strong start and vindicating our hope for two decades of really, being back... Let's go Canes

I also have a sick feeling, it’s a gnawing pulling at my *******, bc of the cumulative doom and gloom of all the mopes trying to offset any disappointed from a loss.we are 9-1 for f**ksake. Do you know who has reason to for pending disaster? The 1-8 SemenHoles. Instead of gnashing our teeth and hand wringing how bout we get behind these kids. They came here to win, they have. We haven’t sniffed a Natty in years, but with what’s in front of us we can smell it. Think like a loser and you’ll lose. We lost last week, it happens. But every stumbling block is a stepping stone, every obstacle is an opportunity. We have an opportunity. Believe in this team and the will believe in themselves and put their heads down, grind it out. That’s all we can ask. Let’s finish it Go Canes🙌🏽

It wasn’t just GTech. It started with USF, but was magnified when we played P5 teams. And that is the scary part - we keep hoping that Guidry will make adjustments, simplify things, etc., but it is actually getting worse. I’m not sure the position groups are regressing, I just think the more film, the easier the weaknesses are to exploit.

Right now, the 2017 Canes team that started 10-0 is ahead of our 9-1 2024 Canes team. The 2017 team played better competition and had a much better defense. The 2024 team may be better on paper, but if they underperform and lose one of the last two games (Wake or Syracuse ), then the 2024team will likely miss the ACC championship game and the CFP playoffs. If that occurs, I would have to grade the 2017 team as the best Canes team in the last two decades and this 2024 team would have to be labeled as a team that faded at the end and squandered its chances to be special.

But as of right now, the 2024 Canes team has its entire future and every opportunity available. They have a lot to fix on defense, but they also have some things that they need to fix on offense as well. During these ACC conference games, the 2024 Canes are making it a habit to start slow on both offense and defense and get behind by two scores—that is a recipe for failure against good ACC teams.
