I Expect Big Things, BIG Things, Out Of These Two

Porter has to stay healthy this year, right? I mean the poor kid has missed almost 2 full seasons. He's a difference maker at DT IMO. Hope they put him in a bubble until fall camp is over.

I dont think I remember any specific down Porter has ever played. I mean everyone says he's good so I guess I'll take your word for it.

Not only does he NOT play on roller skates, he can collapse the pocket.

Despite missing the first 8 games and being out of game shape, he made an impact.

First 8 games: 249 yards rushing per game

Last 4 games: 155 yards rushing per game (and VTech's numbers are inflated by the Logan Thomas 80-yard TD).

At minimum, he provides another body to rotate in. At his best, he's an impact player.

I think Earl Moore has a breakout season. King could breakout next season

Don't ever see the bolded ever happening unfortunately. King plays on skates and gets pushed around like he is a 200 pounder. Moore I could see turning into a solid rotation player that can actually hold his own out there this season (I don't know about breaking out though).

Like some others have posted, I'm pretty confident in our top 3 DTs and think, if healthy, they may even surprise and be a strength of our D.

I actually thoguht Luther Robinson played well in spurts last year and could be a disruptive force if the DT's are allowed to penetrate instead of standing their ground **** like last year.

Any word on King, Moore, and Grimble's progress? Its going to be a long season if those guys can't at least be servicable.

Is Hamilton staying at end? I thought I heard mention of him possibly moving inside. He's definitely got the frame to add more weight.

After those top 3 we've got quite a few JAG's on that D Line depth chart...Hamilton is one of the few of that group that actually shows some upside IMO.

The hype about porter is real. He is a dominator when in there, unblockable with one guy. He's the only guy we have like that. Luther looks much improved to me as well, and Pierre is the guy who was getting the most buzz in the spring. Still, we are missing a lot on D line. Moore showed some potential IMO, same type as Robinson. More of an uphill pass rusher IMO than the 2 gap we need for a 3-4, but I don't expect us to spend much time in 3-4 this year anyways. We don't have the linebackers for it, I think it actually suits our D-line pretty well. I think Chickillo, Porter, and Pierre as a stack end would be a sick 3-4 line, but then we'd have Perryman, Gaines, Kirby, Figs and absolutely 0 depth behind them at LB. Maybe in a 3-4 McCord and Cain are useful on the outside.

We're not exactly making it easy on our DT's. It's no wonder more of them haven't made an impact yet.

He's a defensive tackle it ain't supposed to be easy. The LBs are supposed to get the tackles, the edge guys get the sacks, the DTs force things outside and to the backers and contain and collapse the interior.

Porter is such a big impact player and the plays in that video are a great example. Gets off the ball, gets into the lineman and has the ability to control him as well as disengage him.

Also I will never understand 95% of UM fans posts about us running the 3-4. We CONSTANTLY play with the sam backer on the line over the TE for a 5 man front, and have had Shayon Green and McCord stand up both on and off the line multiple times a game last year. Against 2 back and 2 TE sets we consistently run odd man fronts, when the offense spreads it out we run primarily 4 down guys, but the primary defense last year had 5 guys on the line, and I will never get why people constantly ask about us running a 3-4 going forward, we already run it.

Larry and I used to disagree on Pierre's ceiling. I still think he becomes a star (meaning at least All-Conference this year). The guy has played 2 seasons and one of them was a transition year at DE. Between 2nd and 3rd year is usually the big jump for a DT. He has long arms and really good feet.

Porter is our best DT by a mile. please stay healthy!!!!!!!!

Disagree Manu.

He's only started 3 times and hasn't played more than 4 games since 2009.

Ya don't say? Man, thanks for that explanation. I haven't spent my whole life playing and/or coaching the game, so I really had no clue.

*sarcasm off*

No **** DT ain't easy, but there's certain schemes that are easier to play in than others. People wanna know why our DT's have struggled under Golden/D'Onofrio, well there's your answer. They're asked to do more. Not saying there's anything wrong with it, but it is what it is.

You gotta be a GROWN *** MAN to do what we're asking our DT's to do. I don't know if we'll ever see a young kid make an impact at that position while D'Onofrio is running that scheme.

I was watching some games last night because I'm a football-starved weirdo.

Pierre really came along at the end of the year. He's developed steadily here, but he played great to close out the season. (VT comes to mind)

With Porter, we all know what he's capable of. He just has to stay on the field. They can make a huge difference for us.

OP is a boss dude showed mad improvement and shows AG knows his dTs even though I at times get upset about our DT recruiting (until Valentin)

I agree with you. OP made a lot of plays at the end of the season, especially after Porter came back. I just hope those two, along with Luther, can stay healthy.
