we are gonna win like 4 or 5 games all year if these two don't play well.

I was watching some games last night because I'm a football-starved weirdo.

Pierre really came along at the end of the year. He's developed steadily here, but he played great to close out the season. (VT comes to mind)

With Porter, we all know what he's capable of. He just has to stay on the field. They can make a huge difference for us.

I dont think I remember any specific down Porter has ever played. I mean everyone says he's good so I guess I'll take your word for it.

No doubt these two are key, but we also need a couple of guys like Moore and Robinson to provide quality depth at this position or we are still screwed

I need to go back and watch some of our games because I'm not sure if he really made that much of a difference, or if the constant chanting of "our defense will be so much better when Porter returns" has jaded my memory. I mean, I'm fairly certain that in his limited time he showed more than the other DT's, but I honestly can't remember if it even mattered.

Had the same thought upon rewatch. Pierre stood out more than I anticipated. He has the athleticism to make plays no other DT on the roster can make.

I'm very comfortable with the top 3 at DT. It's depth and the future that scare me.

I think it was the VT game that won me over. He missed pretty much all season and we struggled mightily on D. He gets plugged in the middle that night and all of a sudden we looked like a top 15 D.

We won 7 last year and Porter hardly played and Pierre only showed flashes.

This year we trade ND (road) and KSU (road) for UF (home). I would say the schedule is weaker OVERALL as well.

Yes suh.

Our top 3 DTs are actually a pretty solid group with Pierre seemingly just hitting his stride.

It would be a miracle to get full seasons out of all of them, but you never know. DTs playing well could certainly help our biggest weakness, which is DE at the moment.

Crazy talk. Our offense wins 8 games by itself. Our defense can't and won't be worse than last year. I don't think that is in question. Our offense was potent and will be even better. Hopefully our defense and special teams can win us a game or two. If so our season will be very successful in my eyes at least.

I saw something where after Porter got back in the lineup, the rushing yards against the defense was significantly better, I think close to 80 yards or more a game.

He took up 2 blockers, that's the most important thing a DT can and must do, eat up space demand the double teams, thus freeing up the LB and giving our DE one on one on the edge. So no did he shine like you are implying? No, he did his job when he returned for the final 4 games of the season. Also statistical fact that when he returned for the final 4 games of the season we were light years better than when he wasn't playing, and that includes the Duke game in those stats. When Porter did return and play the final 4 games, it also coincided with the improved play of Pierre's, which his play was night and day the final 4 games as opposed to the previous 8.

Also of note, Porter was nowhere near full strength when he returned, and his strength numbers dropped drastically because of it. As per what my guy told me, during Spring he still hadn't recovered his full strength yet, was getting there though.

Someone pointed out that the most importamt recruiting job Golden did last year was getting Porter, Henderson, and Linder to come back. Tough to argue that one.
