I don't need to explain

I would say in terms of how good they were in college. Better put, you would seriously rather have Duke than one of those guys on our team right now? I love Duke, but those dudes were crazy talents.

You guys honestly think his upside is higher than a Gore, McGahee, Portis or Edge?

His upside in terms of what?

I might be one of the few that think Gore was better than McGahee and Portis. With that said, I see alot of Gore in Duke. The vision, the moves, the home-run threat.

I could care less about Duke's "lack of size" cause he runs like a back that's 200+. There's plenty of backs in football that are 210+ but still don't run as tough as Duke. (and he's only gonna get harder to bring down as he grows)

I think he finishes here as the best RB we've ever had.

I would rather Duke. He's a better back than any of them at the same stage. Gore pre-injury was the closest, IMO. Hindsight is 20/20 but I liked Duke more as a prospect than any of them (again, Gore closest), and Duke had a better first year than any of them. So I don't know why I'd change views now.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Duke won a Heisman at UM.

And while he's smallish, and that might hold back his pro potential, I also think he can be every bit as good as Warrick Dunn, who was at least as good in college and the pros (11K yards rushing, 4K+ receiving) as the UM guys you mentioned.

And I said that before last season started.

Re Gore, he was a better prospect than those guys before injuries, but didn't have the UM career they did because of injuries.

Dude, Duke on those 2000-2003 teams would've been absolutely retarded. He would've averaged 10 + yards a touch.

As a HS prospect, only Gore really comes close to Duke. Duke was legit 5-star super stud. He didn't do a single thing to contract that statement, and if anything, compounded how good he was as a freshman. Duke is going to be on All-American teams by the end of this year.

I heart Duke. Seriously....an integral part to the offense and team. And he was a force in recruiting for us that year.

Pretty much all of this.

Yes, I rather have Duke than any of those three (Gore, post-injury). He actually combines a lot of what makes each special: Gore's vision and cutback ability, Portis' acceleration, Mcgahee's straight line speed and stiff arm.Mcgahee had an unreal season here in 2002, but he's actually the least natural back of the group. Portis was a fantastic inside runner despite his size, but I think Duke will be better built and runs with solid enough lean. Gore is the toughest case in college because we have no real idea what he could have been.

Pretty much agree with everything the veterans have been posting here, though its easy to understand where map is coming from.

Duke was one of the most prolific high school players in Florida history and followed it up with the most impressive freshman campaign in Miami history. All of that spells out a career that could eclipse anyone that has ever played here.

Think about any one of those guys on last years team as a freshman, I can't imagine any of them having more of an impact than Duke did. None of those guys (McGahee, Portis, Gore) were involved in special teams like Duke. This kid is amazing and I look forward to watching him play every weekend. His presence on this team is one of the reasons why I can't believe that Sun Life isn't packed every Saturday, he is a special talent and the majority of S. FL are missing the opportunity to watch him play.

Not to mention Duke's ferocious love of the program, work ethic, and leadership. That will carry him a long way in front of NFL scouts as well

McGahee was actually a five-star and higher rated than Gore. Sam Maldonado (OSU signee who ended up at Maryland) was #1, but McGahee was second or third depending on the service.

Didn't MaGahee blow out his knee returning kicks against West Virginia in 2001?

The first time I saw Gore carry the ball it reminded me of somebody playing a video game on the easiest skill level. He made whole defenses look silly. That's exactly what I saw during Duke's freshman year.

You can't be serious? The BS call which gave the suckeyes a National Championship was terrible but "The Freak" blowing out his knee prior to that was just ******.
