I'd rather win NCST. As long as we take care of business against NCST, i'd be just fine with a loss to ND, even a blowout.

I said this after the KSU game, half-joking and half-serious - if DP stays healthy we will win the ACC Coastal. Of course, he ended up getting hurt, but we still won at GT without him. That ACCCG is 1000x more important than winning one game, no matter if it's ND.

And as far as DP and Kirby go healthwise, i would rather have them fully healed so they can contribute during the meat of our ACC schedule, than have them play in an ultimately meaningless ND game at anything less than 100%. Rest em till UNC.

one of the first times i agree with you...

I wouldnt call it a meaningless game though.. We will be on national TV..If we make it a game it would ultimately help our recruiting

But yes id rather beat ncstate

and how do we know if Kirby is any good? Nobody has seen him play

I kind of agree, but I can't jump all the way in just because I think it would be great to handle one of our tough OOC opponents who happens to be a top 10 team. Its the type of game you need to win to start garnering some national respect back.

If fortune shines on us in the form of very little to no injuries the rest of the year, I don't see much reason why we can't at least compete for the Coastal. We need to focus on all of the ACC games, period.

Look at it this way--even if we lost to ND and USF both this season (which we should at least split those games), lose to F$U, and win out the other games--we're 8-4, 7-1 in the ACC...and on our way to probably rematch against F$U in the ACC Championship Game. By that point in time, even with 4 losses, we'd probably be at least in the bottom end of the Top 25. I still want us to win against teams like F$U/ND/USF, but those games aren't the ones that will decide our ultimate ACC Coastal fate.

Our whole season comes down to how well we can do in 5 more games: NCSU, UNC, VT, @UVA, and @Duke. If we can run the table--the Coastal is ours, and the other games don't really matter--winning them would be icing on the cake. Being 2-0 at this point in the ACC, we basically control our own destiny. It's a broad view, and it's still early in the season--but that's the case, folks.

Precisely. I would argue further that the ACC Coastal games should be given even more importance - even if we lost to NCSt and FSU but still managed to win the 4 remaining Coastal games, we would still be a very strong favorite to win the Coastal at 6-2 in the ACC, and 5-0 in the ACC Coastal. GT, UNC, and Virginia would be sitting at best at 6-2 in the ACC but we would own the tiebreakers both head to head and divisional record. We would only need VT and Duke to lose one more ACC game and they too would sit at 6-2 at best in the ACC with us owning the tiebreakers of head to head and divisional record.

We all need to just enjoy this team in this moment. We shouldn't start wiring about ND or winning the coastal. Just hope the young men get better each week.

What fun would that be? lol...I want these kids to grow and get better, and I think by next year we should be in the hunt, and then in 2014 we should be talking about double-digit wins at least. But--at this point in time in the season, this is the scenario. Discussing it won't hurt.

I was just saying this the other day.

We have never been to an ACC championship game so obviously even just getting there would be a huge success. The ND game is still an important game. If we want recruits around the country to really believe we are on our way back then we have to put up a fight in that game. A win would be monumental. I still think it's more important at this time to focus on winning the ACC.

A win against an undefeated Notre Dame team in top 10 on national TV will go a longer ways than beating NCST.

This isn't our year (to win the ACC either)... so I'd be damned if I would take an NCST win over ND on the road.

i think we can win both and i think we can beat fsu too they dont look that good, think we have just as much talent or more

Pass me whatever it is that you're on, man...they looked crazy-athletic and fast against Clemple, especially in the 2nd half. Tons of playmakers that folks aren't talking much about like Kelvin Benjamin and Lamarcus Joyner. Everyone seems focused on Manuel and Werner, but there's a bunch of good players on that squad this year.

I ain't scared of em by any means, but I got to give the Devils their due...they look legit. We'll have to play really well to beat them. It's a rivalry game, and just like any rivalry--anything can happen.

Yeah--but given the choice, do we lose to NCSU which could eventually dash our dreams of playing for the ACC title, or lose to ND which might look bad on national TV but won't affect our standings in the ACC?

I think if we're playing for the ACC title by the end of the season that recruits will pay more attention to that than they would a win/loss either way to ND. I'm going to Chicago and will be rooting for us to get the W, but if we lost and didn't garner any major injuries, and it still allowed us to run the ACC table well enough to make the title game, I'd take it.
